Problems creating custom flags and graves
I'm aware what to do when creating a flag and a grave, since it's almost the same as making a map.
Maps require a palette between 16 and 112 colors, and this palette must have black as the first color in the palette.

The problem I'm having is that (e.g.) when loading a custom flag, either the colors are messed up or there is a lot of black in the flag.

I'm not sure what to do to create a flag (and by extension a grave). What do I do?
I have followed the instructions and stuff but it doesn't work for me.
I use GIMP.

The most common issue is that the flag is not a Windows BMP file. If GIMP doesn't allow saving flags as Windows BMPs, you'll have to use a different image editor.

It does save in BMP, and the game loads the custom sprite.
I'll see what other image editor I can find.

There are two formats of BMP: Windows and OS/2. Photoshop lets you choose which one to use when you save the file.
If you're still unsure, send me the BMP, and I'll try to figure out what's wrong in it.

Photoshop isn't free.
Also, I made the grave on a different computer. I'll get back to you once I get the image and after I check if I'm doing something wrong (again).

EDIT: I have realized I've been somewhat rude to you. I apologize for that.
I've found the source of the problem, and it was something I can't exemplify in any way, but it involved the BMP format. Oof.

I had this same issue. If you have Paint on the same computer, you can make a copy of an existing grave, open them both in Paint, then paste your new grave over the copy of the existing grave, and save it. Easy way to make sure it has all the right settings.

I have this issue and nothing I've tried has worked so far. It works on both flags and graves: they are displayed correctly in the game's options menu, but incorrectly in the battle itself.

The only hint at what this problem might be I encountered: is my paint (v6.3 on Win8.1) not saving in 256-colour .bmp (256-цветный рисунок .bmp), returning a warning what I will lose some of my colours if I do. I can only save in 24-bit .bmp (24-разрядный рисунок .bmp) without losing colours.

This is the colour palette I used: link[en.wikipedia.org]. It's an indexed 256-colours palette, with first and last colours being black.

I assume my problem is what I selected palette which uses 24-bits per colour, while the game only works with 8-bit colours; so the only way to get correct colours is to use palette which the game itself uses?
