How to play custom maps
I've got a custom map that was auto generated from the game, I liked it, so I loaded it in the map editor and saved it as a PNG. It's in the SavedLevels folder in the games files, but I can't select it as a map in-game. I've tried putting it in the Levels folder in DATA, but that doesn't work either. I've looked it up and everyone says put it in SavedLevels, but that's not doing anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Worms Armageddon\User\SavedLevels
should go in there

Right click the map thumbnail to enter the map editor. Then select the map from the drop-down list in the middle-bottom of the screen.

If the map fails to load it means you didn't save the .PNG correctly. But you should at least be able to see it.

Obn, I can load the map in the editor just fine. But when I go into set up a single/multiplayer game, or any game lobby. and select the drop down to pick a map, it doesn't appear in the list.

5m0, the map already is in savedlevels in user, but that doesn't make the level appear and become selectable in a game lobby, which is confusing cause that seems like the most logical place for the map to be.

thanks for replying, please let me know if you find a solution.

I don't understand. You can load the map in the editor, but it's not in the list? Doesn't it have to be in the list for you to load it?

Don't use the "import" button (floppy diskette). Your maps should be saved as .png files.

the list is referring to a different list. For when I go into a game lobby to set up a game, and there's the drop down menu to select a pre-made map, or the yellow blobs above it to generate a a map, I can't find or select the custom map that I saved as a png in the map editor and have in SavedLevels. The list in the map editor shows only the files contained in saved levels, mostly the .png of the map and the .lev of the map that I extracted from my game history.

to be clear you dont use hosting buddy or something right?

I do use hosting buddy for online multiplayer matches, yes. But I can't imagine that would make a difference with my case as I'm trying to select the map in an offline singleplayer lobby.

did you try with other maps ? downloaded maps or something just in case?
also i guess you could try running the game with admin privileges it case its a permission issue and the game cant read those files or something but bit of a long shot (also turn off antiviruses if you have any while youre at it)

Sounds like it's just the one map you made that isn't showing up. It's probably not saved correctly in .png format. My guess is you have file extensions hidden in Windows and you have your map named as MYMAP.png.jpg or something. That way it appears to you as MYMAP.png (correct) but WA and Windows sees it as a .jpg file. Find your map in Windows, right click on it, go to Properties, and see what type of file it is.

I've tried downloading another map off WMDB.org as a png saving it in the savedlevels folder. It didn't appear as a selectable map either. Also running as administrator didn't work. And I already whitelisted worms from my anti-virus. Also yes the map is saved as a .png and not a .jpg. The game saved the .lev as a .png through the map editor.

Thanks for stickin with me with this issue btw guys, I do appreciate the help.

cant think of much else. are you sure you only have 1 installation of worms and thats the one youre putting the map files in? if the answer is yes then no idea how to help you any further :/

nothing on google either besides the usual stuff

yes, I only have one copy of worms and that's this steam version.

All I can think of at the moment is that you're still using the wrong folder. Double check that you're not downloading your maps in \DATA\User\Savedlevels. The DATA folder is basically an exact copy of the original CD-Rom so it's not meant to be modified whatsoever. There's another User folder in the root WA folder where all your custom user-content goes.

The fact that your replay-extracted maps show up but not your downloaded ones is strange. Can you see the maps you saved from your history (eg. the .lev files) in the same folder where you're trying to download the maps to? There should be no reason why one .png would load and the other wouldn't at least attempt to load, if they're both in the same folder. If you create subfolders inside Savedlevels (eg. "\Savedlevels\Arbok's Maps") can you see the subfolder in WA at least?

The fact that some maps are saving and working (your extracted maps) says to me that it's probably not a permissions issue caused from the game being installed in Program Files or from not running as an administrator.. post back and I'll keep thinking about it.

there might have been a misunderstanding. neither the downloaded nor the extracted maps can be loaded and played. I can however load both of them in the map editor. And yes I've double checked and I can confirm that it is in the user - savedlevels that isn't in the DATA folder

posting a couple of screenshots would be useful. like one in the map editor showing the drop list with the maps and another in the lobby where youre trying to host a game.

im assuming the same happens if you host a game on wormnet? (without hosting buddy obviously)

also do any maps at all show up? if so, search where those are in your system
