PS you can use wkRemapKeys to change keyboard controls. http://worms2d.info/WkRemapKeys
The game was released in 1999 and things were different back then. A lot has been patched and much can be configured with external tools. The modern iterations are extremely lacking in this regard.
The game comes with a manual which is located in the installation directory.
So, a quick rundown:
Right hand: Movement, aiming and jumping (arrow keys, enter and backspace. Nicely nearby each other. Good job there.)
Left hand: Firing (space), setting fuse (number keys, 1 for 1 sec... couldn't be more straightforward) and bounciness, selecting worm (tab) and choosing weapons (the F keys. Has learning curve, pays off quick). Don't see a problem here either.
It's practically impossible to use right-click in competitive play on schemes that have a 10s wait time (to plan your move) and a 1s execution time :P
W:A's controls can't be easier than they are. Tough thing, tho, is to learn how to use that basic knowledge in best possible way you can, when your turn comes.
Maybe he just got mad when seeing other ppl flying around map, while he is still struggling to figure out on which F key rope is placed?! :)) (jk)
Give it some time man, like @Obn3g0n already said: "it's so worth it!"
I'm available anytime if you need someone to show you how awesome this game is.
