That's not even true for the Old Gods. The Girl becomes Old God in the first game, while God Of Depths dies.
Old Gods simply do not exist in a human timescape, while the beginning of their existence can be written down in history (All-Mer and GoFH both ushered ages to come and pass: Old Order and Cruel Age respectively). It's a very strange thing lorewise, but I took it at face value and consider Old Gods to be capable of ignoring linear flow of time.
