ROTT 1.5.1 Crossplay Patch Released
SURPRISE!

ROTT v1.5.1 Has Been Released!

We have released a new patch for Rise of the Triad, which enables Cross-Play compatibility with GOG Galaxy.

This will allow Cross-Play Multiplayer between Steam and GOG users, while still being able to use Steam Workshop and all the Steam Features.
We're extremely excited as we're the very first to make this happen on both platforms.
Make sure to give GOG players a bloody welcome at the upcoming "Saturday Night ROTT" events.

The patch is 1.2gb and adds the Crossplay functionality.
The patch also enables 64-bit compatibility, which should increase performance for many of you as well. The game will auto-detect your OS to determine and launch the 32 or 64 bit .exe

Note to all Modders/Mappers: As with every new version of ROTT, you will need to re-cook your Mods/Maps in order to make them compatible with the new version.

Enjoy!

Copying this in this thread, so maybe the Devs will see it...

Yeah, I had some performance increase too, although I already had specs above and beyond what the devs state it's required for the Ludicrous settings.

Problem is, the game still uses only a rather small fraction of the available VRAM (less than 500 MBs at all times) and because of this lags a bit when moving between enviroments since it has to hit my SSD to get the content that comes next.

I get that the devs have chosen to make it this way so that the load times are small (mine, from a ssd, are so quick that if you blink you miss the loading screen) but it really hurts the performance in game where it matters most, even on machines like mine (well above the game recomended specs) so I'd like to see a toggle for loading everything to VRAM at level load time in the options.

We're looking into this!
GOG wanted us to push this live this weekend so let's start testing it! We'll have a bigger promotion about it SOON™ and more BIG updates SOON™.

Do you mean SOON™ or REALLY SOON™ ?
Thanks for the update. The 64bit client is working fine for me and runs better than the old 32bit one, but only AFTER i deleted my old settings in Documents\my games\Rise Of The Triad\ROTTGame\Config. Before deleting all the old ini files, the ROTT launcher would just crash when trying to save the graphics settings.

Awesome. So we've got a better chance of finding players now?
I thought since no accounts was needed that there was no copy protection at all for multiplayer and that even the pirates could be playing with us on the same servers. So that wasn't the case then? I assumed those who got it for free through GOG was already with us :)

Personally I would appreciate more if what you did if you want to give the title away is to handle it through us who have already purchased it as a small thank you towards us (more like "2 for the price of 1" rather than "you paid for it and those get it for free", personally I saw the notification of the GOG copy the day it was launched but was still too late for it =P)

Nice to see some updates still coming :)
As for the SSD maybe that's part of my problem too then?

I run from 3 TB WD Green (5400 rpm, 64 MB cache) drive, in single player I get the occasional drops in frame rate but I also get it in multiplayer and sadly mostly when someone is shooting at me =P

However I play at less than good gear. Previously Athlon64 X2 6400+ and 9600 GT and now on Phenom X4 9850 and the same 9600 GT. I play all at low/off with constrictive shadows or whatever it says on. According to MSI Afterburner I hit about say 65% load on average on both CPU and GPU but it varies from say 20-100% or so. Seem to be about the right settings for me but for my performance it suck that I lose track of things now and then =P
Awesome. Crossplay with unnecessary GOG and still no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gnu/linux build.
