"Press any key to continue" does nothing

I have the 1.5.1 patch installed. I've verified my local game cache files and they're fine. Running Windows 8.1 and the rest of the specs of my machine more than meet the recommendations. I had a game in progress which seems to have gotten tossed due to the update and while that's upsetting a little I've seen significant upgrades cause that problem so I'm not totally surprised.

The problem howver is I can't start a new game at all. I get to the initial "press any key to continue" and nothing I press lets me go on with the game. I can click on the "main menu" in the upper left to get to the main menu. I can click on the mission briefing just fine. The shift-tab will bring up the Steam overlay just fine so I know I've got keyboard input happening just fine. The other intersting bit here is that once i quit ROTT via an alt-f4 or dropping back through the menu to exit any subsequent running of the ROTT launcher will crash when I click on the "Advanded Options" button, "ROTTLauncher has stopped working" It'll crash there repeatedly until I reboot my machine.

Any thoughts on this?

it's kinda misleading - you have to press any key on the keyboard, it won't detect any mouse buttons, at least that's how it is for me. if it still doesn't work with space or enter and stuff, there could be a problem here.

About the launcher crash, I've seen a few people get rid of this problem by navigating over to C:\Users\uhh\Documents\My Games\Rise Of The Triad\ROTTGame\Config, deleting all the configs in there and relaunching the game letting it create them itself. Hopefully this works out some of your issues.

Neglected to mention that the Windows 8.1 is the 64 bit version if that matters in any meaningful way.

click on the ''press any key to continue'' text, that might work.
atleast for me, but dont click too much because that will crash the game for some reason

Try running the 32bit exe again from the folder and see if it works SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Rise of the Triad\Binaries

Maybe it's an issue with x64?

In regard of the saves you may get them back if you finish one level.

Negative on the \Steam Library\steamapps\common\Rise of the Triad\Binaries\Win32\ROTT.exe pressing any key still gets me nowere.

Mystery partly solved. I trashed my entire Documents\My Games\Rise Of The Triad folder and started again. The initial "press any key" when entering the first map worked as it should.

There must have been something a little messesd up in one of the config files that was causing some grief.
