If you turn the music all the way down to zero in the audio settings then it just stops playing altogether so you can play your own tunes if you want.
Try some of the other weapons. In Arcade mode (the most finished mode) you can unlock them by "Downloading" files from the Purple structures that appear (after destroying them of course). At the end of the game you will be awarded points you can spend in the Loadout Editor to unlock Items.
I've got a better unlocking method in my backlog at the moment but development has slowed down a fair bit as the result of having to get a full time job to support myself.
