Probably because the first game had a load of issues that irritated players. The sequal was the obvious choice to remake because it was better recieved.

The first one didn't have save points, it would only save at the begining of a chapter.
Death would result in a chapter restart.
You couldn't stack ammo so 24 pistol bullets was all you got for pistol.
No reloading :\

Who knows, maybe they will remake the first one. Despite these glaring flaws, it was still pretty good. (and even maybe MOON, which was their inbetween game)

Yes, one thing that let me very angry with the first Dementium is that i can't carry health packs, and i can't use the lantern and one weapon in the same time (Doom 3 feelings). But still is a good game and I got used with this little troubles, and the puzzles are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool, for example the piano puzzle in the beggining of the game.

But couldnt they change the way it plays? Or would that be effected by law or perhaps break the game?

When they were looking at the series and considering porting the original, Dementium: The Ward, they realized that it would have required a lot more to bring it to PC given the issues mentioned above along with the gameplay being even more basic with no jumping or crouching. From a budget and porting standpoint, Dementium II was a better choice. While the gameplay is still old-school in DII HD, it just offered more as a PC port than the Ward.

so you are going to abandon the story of the first game?

every door saved so you can come back later and continue the game, BUT death restarted the chapter. so Yeah it did save, but death was still a major pain.

In the time era Dementium II actually takes place before the Ward, if I remember correctly. It actually makes more sense to release this one first.

An HD remake of The Ward incorporating the gameplay improvements in DII would be pretty damn cool. But, given that it would entail a significant amount of extra work, I can definitely see how they decided to go with DII instead.

Nope. It's the sequel hence "stage 2".

To me, the original one is harder (far away harder), so, it'd be a good deal. It'd be a good idea to build "Moon" which is also from Renegade Kid and for DS, and uses the same engine.
