I noticed the accuracy of that right away. Also it's louder, even with MKII-S suppressor. I put that gun on and used it for a bit, but backtracked to a bench to change back to my Lee Enfield. The M1941 has good damage and semi-auto fire though.
SE:R is still missing something like the really great maps from SE5 like Spy Academy, Secret Weapons (probably the best map overall in the game), Rubble and Ruin or even Liberation. This felt like an average SE5 map to me, "alright", but not exciting. At all. It also lacks some variety... in Atlantic Wall you had to destroy an antenna, destroy coastal artillery, destroy flak cannon, destroy the big artillery gun, find a safehouse and intel, kill a vip and locations included fields, (bigger) farms, military installations and a small town with church etc, here you just shoot three spotters which you can do from very far away even, same for the snipers who are easily spotted when you see their laserbeam optics, then you destroy two Nebelwerfer (which was a mere side objective in Atlantic Wall, comparable to the flaks), kill an officer with yet another Nebelwerfer and then collapse a cave that hardly deserves the name with a satchel charge and everything is just rural landscape with some isolated buildings here and there, several of which you can't even enter, as usual.
Map design is lacking in this game overall, I feel. Some are ok, but none of them are as great as the great SE5 maps. Which is unfortunate.
I do actually enjoy less talkative Karl, the constant chatting is only ok during the first run, subsequent runs turn this into something very annoying very, very quickly... I wish Rebellion would introduce a switch in the settings that would allow us to disable the story related monologue and most of the flavour chatter (tall grass, submachine gun yadda yadda), so that Harry becomes more like any of the alternative characters with just the occasional quip after a good shot or so. As is I never play as Harry anymore, at least now I can play as taciturn Karl, even if he still has to tell you about tall grass... :-D
I can't disagree about that cave though, I was all WTF over that. I was happy to have a nice outdoor map anyway though. I don't expect perfection, there's always something about everything I don't like :-)
While older graphics, none of them are as great as the great Sniper Elite 4 maps, especially the Deathstorm DLC maps. The second one, that big Niroli map was a particularly large effort. Generally the maps in SE4 are highly artistic. The Giovi Fiorini Mansion map is another one that is a work of art, and highly immersive to me.
Spy Academy in Sniper Elite 5 is another exceptional map. One of my very favourites. That's a Metric Sh*t Tonne of effort there.
But I love Vercors Vendetta... the lighting and atmosphere, the artful use of mist effects, the houses, structures and bridges etc. look like they are supposed to be there (I've complained a few times that some of the maps in SE Resistance look like a bunch of props), the background scenery like rock and mountains looks believable AND (perhaps others will disagree), I like the relaxed pace of it. Small pockets of enemies defending the objectives, and plenty of opportunities for fighting at long range.
In the main SE Resistance game, End of the Line is probably my favourite. Sonderzuge is a nice one too.
Regarding SE4, I always enjoyed the opening of Allagra Fortress, and the entire Deathstorm: Inception map; the snow and ice along with sound effects was so compelling. Here's hoping there's a snowy setting in one of the upcoming SER DLCs as well.
