are there any gameplay improvements in this latest SE?
or is it just 100% a reskin?

No, all of the player skills and enemy behaviors are the same, and there are still barriers you can't vault over when you should be able to as well as walls, doors and window frames that block your shot.
The only new additions are some of the weapons, explosive ammo, schu mines with firecrackers on them and concussion grenades.
One could say the more numerous, at times excellent, sniping opportunities are an improvement, but in terms of actual gameplay, no. This is literally SE5 with new maps and some reskinned enemies that are like any other regular enemy and of course some new weapons, but the shooting mechanics have not changed.

Maps however are often substantially smaller, one map is even reused, number of enemies is at times even lower than in SE5 (talking <70 enemies on a map).

What a JOKE. Ironically basing this game on Sniper Elite 4 would've yielded a better result! SE5 was already a meh game to begin with, with inferior mechanics to 4.

@Shin Happens---excellent post! I'll add; most of the maps (SE5 & SER) seem lifeless; e.g. no civilians at all where one would expect to see them conducting life under war time conditions/occupation. No live stock or escped domestic pets either. Sure; there are security areas the Germans would have run the civvies out of, or not allowed them into; I still think it's a missed/unfulfilled opportunity to flesh out the game world into a better reality.

Another issue (for me) is the in game weapon/cartridge balance compared to their real world counter parts.

Game World done well/properly? Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

Those things you mention IMO are beyound Rebellion`s comprehension / imagination , this is just SE5 with new maps
same game again, graphics look worse.. i think. not sure if that is the case

And then they f*ck it up completely in Breakpoint.

These would all make for good additions and make the world feel more alive and real, less video gamey. I also played Wildlands and bought Breakpoint during its Steam sale in January. Even though the sniping mechanics in Sniper Elite are overall better, when it comes to immersion Wildlands and even Breakpoint are far ahead. The addition of civilians or animals (pets) would greatly benefit Sniper Elite.
You'd have to look before you shoot, accidentally shooting a civilian (or too many) should come with some penalty, but even apart from that they could provide you with intel, here and there Rebellion did that in SE5 when you met Resistance fighters in camps or in safehouses, they would give you hints and mention new objectives, but Resistance almost entirely removed this element as well.

The maps in Sniper Elite feel very video gamey because of that. Funny enough they seem to be aware of that - in mission 6 (where you have yet another town and then the fortress on the hill) Harry mentions that the Resistance evacuated the entire town months ago... to explain away the fact that a town would usually have people in it. Even in wartimes.

A proper mix of Ghost Recon Wildlands and Sniper Elite would be fantastic.

About inaccurate weapon damage etc... I can understand it, it's a game, they want to have some balance between the weapons and arbitrarily introduce trade offs for certain advantages. Most games (not Breakpoint) for example get shotguns very wrong, you'd get the impression that shotguns are useless when anything is further away than 40 or 50m, which is absolutely not true, but they balance the much higher damage with a much shorter range and you can understand it.

What I REALLY hate though are the stupid fantasy bulletproof helmets. Helmets are not bulletproof, it is not their job to stop bullets. Does Rebellion assume handguns fire peas? I am always annoyed when a well placed shot is deflected by a stupid helmet. This should not be a thing.

I actually bought the game on a sale a few weeks ago. And while the open world is not as great as Wildlands the many, many patches and gameplay fixes after release based on gamer feedback make Breakpoint actually pretty enjoyable now, this is an entirely different game now. The UI is still a mess though, the story is convoluted if you do the missions in the wrong order (and nothing tells you what order to play them in, you can, in theory, kill the big bad of episode 1 at the very beginning which makes no sense).
I decided not to get Breakpoint when it was released based on the reviews and the gameplay I saw. But now that the stupid RPG elements (gear levels are nonsense) are purely optional, with the addition of a Wildlands-esque DLC campaign Breakpoint is actually good fun, they also brought teammates back after complaints and weapon variety is excellent, the guns feel really good in this game. I have lot more fun in Breakpoint currently than in Resistance.

Yeah, I had some fun in Breakpoint. Admittedly the gameplay is even excellent at times.

But man (like you hinted at,) it just doesn't feel like a cohesive experience. The campaign is so illogical and disjointed that it just feels like doing a bunch of random missions.

And I know they patched it a lot. I only played it for the first time after all of those patches. It's still structurally messed up, unfortunately.

All they had to do was not make a f*cking cash grab.

That's tantamount to screwing to promote virginity. More sniping is only good if the maps are big enough to accommodate it... and the A. I. is good enough to make it engaging.

It is not a game for everyone. Not for those who are trigger-happy and like to rush.
It is a calm game, to go slowly and enjoy the landscape and the interiors. For me it is a gem, like the previous ones.

The problem is that it's a copy-paste of SE5. Who said that the formula is bad? No one. That's why the franchise has made it to game 5 (or 6) already. The problem is releasing the same thing again as a new game with no improvements! Every game until now has been an improvement on the previous one (except arguably SE4 to SE5,) not a copy-paste job. This is the first time they sink to a low like this.

You realize that accepting devs re-releasing the same game over and over leads to inferior products, right? If you don't demand anything, you get nothing. Pay for the same copy-paste job and that's what you'll get because it costs the least for the devs to develop.

Less effort = less development costs = more profit. This is just raw capitalism in action - companies will always do the minimum they can get away with.

But only if you keep buying the slop. You don't buy it and complain, and they will have to step up their game.
