I am new to the Sniper Elite series, and would like to know if you all here recommend that I first play Sniper Elite: Resistance (the latest entry in the series as of this typing), or shall I therefore foray into the very first Sniper Elite game (the very first entry in the series as of this typing)?

If by "very first" you man Sniper Elite 1... no. Definitely not. There is no continuing story, you do not need to lnow anything about previous games, you can start playing any Sniper Elite game you like really, you need to know nothing about previous titles. But 1 is positively ancient and probably not much fun to play in 2025.

My recommendation try to find a deal for Sniper Elite 5, play that. Resistance is still riddled with bugs and contrary to Sniper Elite 5 still very incomplete, i.e. the full SE5 package with both season passes has various DLC missions, DLC weapons, Resistance only comes with the basic 9 story missions (only 7 of which are proper missions) and one DLC mission and a somewhat barebones selection of weapons compared with SE5.

Only if you want to do a lot of invasions then maybe Resistance is the better choice at the moment, because more people are currently playing Resistance of course.
