Sniper Elite: Resistance

Sniper Elite: Resistance

Day One
So today is the first day I have played resistance. Not because I’m a slow starter, I ordered the pre release delux editition way back in October, in fact I ordered two copies one for me one for my son. They wouldn’t start whatever I did, uninstall, reinstall play with my pc settings, nothing. Reported it, no response at all, crash reports, 20 plus crash reports, no feedback at all. Then this morning switched it on ready to do another daily crash report and it worked. No update no downloading, it just worked. Crazy. So today is the first day I got to play it. Am I impressed, “NO”. Am I underwhelmed “YES”. Does the game leave a lot to be desired, “ABSOLUTELY”.
Now don’t get me wrong I am not some elite gamer with a super computer, I am 66 years old and die frequently, I only play solo or coop with my son. The game itself, and I use the word game in the broadest possible sense, just lacks the feel of a new game, more of an old DLC. What it feels like to me is rebellion put all their developers in small groups to come up with ideas and scenarios for SE5. Once they had chosen which missions they wanted to use for SE5 they developed it. Did they bin the ideas that were rejected, “HELL NO”! They hung onto them and put them together to form resistance. That’s how it feels to me. Harry hawker being Carl Fairborn poorer less fortunate cousin.
Would I recommend it, absolutely not, It is just a total rip off. £70 and never got my two days early access, no communication,
when I finally get to play it, it is rubbish the day after release there are other key suppliers flogging the delux edition for £45. I will never pre order a game from rebellion ever again. I know this is a pointless vent as at the end of the day they don’t give s@&t about their customers. But it does clear my mind about the rip off stunt they have pulled. But that’s my opinion but undoubtably I am not the only one with that opinion.

I was undecided as to pre -purchase as I have always bought their games but I was reluctant to do so and so called "sat on the fence" Glad I made the right decision in not buying it.I have read numerous threads about the game and what you have said and it appears to be something that a dlc for sniper 5 would have been ok with .Other sites as you mentioned you can buy it a lot cheaper and still I am not tempted to buy this,I too only play single player or coop as I dont need the hassle of being invaded by cheats all the time. You would have thought that loyal customers would have been given a realistic discount but alas its all about profit as far as they are concerned ,I for one will never support them ever again .£70 is an absolute rip off for those who paid that much for the game . I have gone back playing SE5 and milking it for its worth getting my moneys worth out of a game .

Sorry you had so much trouble getting SER to run, but given your subsequent dissatisaction with it; it sounds like it might be best if you uninstalled it and moved on. Which is what I do with games I don't like.
Oftentimes, when a company stoops to abusing the good reputation of franchise in order hock, err... "lesser" products, the I. P. in question is on its last legs. Hopefully, SE bucks that trend... However, with how cynical the SER release has revealed itself to be -- and especially in spite of thoroughly excellent I. P,'s (Zombie Army, Strange Brigade) just sitting there waiting to be capitalised upon -- I. P.'s which could indeed just be as re-hashed as glorified DLC, and still be well received -- it's a worrying direction that they took this time 'round...
Edit: second day, fired it up this morning and surprise surprise it crashes at start up just as before and the dreaded steam cloud error is back also. I give in.

Dracula, is that you?
SER works fine on PC Windows 11. No issues from day 1. Completed all missions. Clutching up to Authentic and Survival modes. Great game.

^^this^^
SER is a Sniper Elite game, it doesn't pretend to be anything else.
It does what is does well: snipe. stealth, sabotage, bullet cam, large maps. If you liked those things in the other SE games, you will like this one.
Now if it's a $$$ thing, that's a you problem, not the games.
Completing the missions is standard stuff. Completing them on Authentic is not. Completing the Survival missions is not. Completing the Propaganda challenges is not. Methodically achieving all the medals for specific achievements takes great skill.

Without Authentic Plus and/or imposing certain gameplay restriction (some baby mode skills, healing under specific conditions etc.), it more or less.

Completing the Survival missions is not.
With only two maps, it more of less is.

Completing the Propaganda challenges is not.
Without co-op functionality for the game mode, it more or less is.

Methodically achieving all the medals for specific achievements
Unless one has O. C. D. and and a predilection for wasting time, it more or less is.

NB: I still play SE5, and still have some kill missions and workbenches to find; as well as doing missions from different starting locations -- i. e., it's not about "playing the game wrong" or wanting to "beat" it as fast as possible... It's about what's there to do, being worthwhile doing, as distinct from busy work to pad out a shallow experience / justify an investment.

I am surprised you have a son old enough to play the Sniper series but never learned this simple lesson:

Never preorder games!

You get a worse experience at a much higher price, I am trying to teach this to my son. Basically, I never buy any game at full price ever despite being able to afford this.
