Also keeping your distance and shooting at 100 meters is more then enough to kill everybody before they even approach
About adjusting the scope... you can adjust the distance scale, so the horizontal white marker will be closer to "0" if the target is further away.
My advice for sniping on authentic if you are struggling... pick the rifle with the highest muzzle velocity. Use match ammunition for shots that are >200m away, this greatly increases muzzle velocity. Maybe use a less powerful silencer or use none at all and use soundmasking instead, a silencer will reduce muzzle velocity considerably and without one you can get considerably higher bullet speeds..
The higher the muzzle velocity and therefore bullet speed the less the bullet will be affected by wind and gravity. Allowing you to aim more easily, because you do not need to correct so much for wind and bullet drop.
About being spotted... my advice... just retreat. Go somewhere else, far away, you can always retreat (usually) and avoid the alerted enemy altogether. The Germans will eventually stop searching. Also, it is unlikely the entire map is empty after hiding in a building because the games have "action bubbles", i.e. only soldiers nearby are usually affected by what you do and enemies somewhat further away are unaware and do not react, even if it is highly unrealistic. They did this to prevent exactly this: to have an empty map because you created too much noise and every soldier from every corner of the map came running to your position.
This is at least the intended behavior and this is how it was in SE5, I have tested this in Resistance as well, I made a lot of noise, i.e. open firefight, and these action bubbles still exist. Soldiers who in real life would and should hear it, do not react if they are a bit further away. If you really have no enemies left on the entire map after an alert and everyone is coming for you it may be a bug. This is not meant to happen.
In terms of being spotted, taking things slower and being more patient is helping. I think playing the lower difficulties led to bad habits as you can get away with a lot.
I went back to SE5 last night night and tried that on Authentic and so far I'm having a lot of fun with it. The larger maps make the enemy snipers a lot more dangerous.
Overall I wish I'd played authentic mode earlier, the game is so much better.
I forgot I had invasions switched on in SE5 so had another player after me too on my first try on authentic... and won.... so so satisfying :-)
If you invade and someone is playing on casual so they have every help and minimal dmg but they still manage to get killed by AI. I have watched some people fight and it's no wonder people cry that they played the game trough in 4 hours they just rush in and play it like COD....
Let people play how they want. You arent a real life sniper so I wouldnt be too snobby about playing a game on the hardest mode.
There's zoom, which is unavailable in Authentic.
And there's range zeroing. Q and E adjust zeroing. For example, if your scope is zeroed to 200m and you use your binoculars to check that the enemy is exactly 200m away, then you don't have to worry about bullet drop. If the enemy is over 200m, you need to adjust a bit high, if under 200m, aim a bit low. Get experience on the shooting range. Wind may be judged by the little white line at the top of the scope.
Don't worry if it's hard to hit someone at 400m. That's the way it's supposed to be.
When you can't see through walls, etc., it's a very different game.
I think Pferd is just expressing enthusiasm, rather than calling other players babies. Similarly, PC Master Race isn't really claiming mastery over all other gamers either...though some people really take exception to the term.
only go for the main objectives, unless you like to challenge yourself.
make use of the other starting locations, closer to one or more objectives.
sniping is not that hard as it was in SE3 or SE4 on authentic.
I noticed that if enemy is 250m away, you wanna put your horizontal line on the top of his head,if the wind blows just on the edge of your vertical line, then you put your vertical line next to his face.
if the wind is between the first notch and your vertical scope line, then you put your vertical line next to his shoulders. the wind is not that crazy in this game. [ but correct me if i am wrong on these adjustments ]
I only used the main character so can not comment on side characters, but he has remarks like "I am sitting ducks here" or " it`s time to go home" when you get spotted.
Listen to whistles, officers going to warn the others if he sees you.
I have 4 missions here in under 5 minutes, with minimal or no sniping at all, if you just wanna get the achievement.
If you want to enjoy the sniping, then don`t rush and - save, save save!
