Now each and every Resistance mission has something like the Kraken, but the Kraken at least had tons of access points, but a Karl with focus still was pretty difficult to beat. And the tower in Conqueror was not super op, yes, you could hide there and snipe some parts of the map, but you were not invulnerable and you could not snipe everyone.
Now imagine playing against a co-op team, where one is near a phone and the other is on overwatch duty from one of the many excellent vantage points in Resistance that can overlook most if not all of the map sometimes...
it was already kind of annoying at times in SE5, but in Resistance I imagine it will be absolutely not fun to invade those folks.
Maybe invaders need AP ammo again. Or maybe introduce a timer after x minutes of camping (and the camping detection should be more strict, it should apply to an entire building) and failure to switch position results in a win for the invader, because the Germans will fire an undodgeable artillery strike on the camper's position that flattens everything. Or maybe display Harry's outline if he refuses to leave a building after x minutes and with AP ammo this should now be a very different game, the outline would disappear the second someone leaves the building. This would still not make for fun gameplay as an invader, but at least you'd not waste your time entirely.
But a Harry with focus in a place like the church is, I imagine, very, very difficult to reach. Unless they are foolish enough to show their head, you can of course snipe people in the tower.
While Harry should always be the "hero", it's the host's game after all, a PvP session should still be fun for all people involved. I would not be surprised if invasions will not be as popular in Resistance unless Rebellion seriously tweak the experience.
I think the main issue is that the second mission is very small, you can get from side to side in a rough 30 seconds, even running/gunning as Harry. And while very easy to get out of the top of the church tower, getting in is a tactical problem. And from all angles, the person on the high ground is in favor. More so on Harry's side. Thing is, 3rd person stealth games always have favor on high ground and around corners. And without an alternative path into the church tower... the map that is going to be played most in invasion will also be one of the more stubborn ones teaching new players bad behavior.
The best matches I had as an Jeager were (duo) matches with Harry and Co doing missions finishing the mission trying to outsmart me.
My most common matches are people going to church, and planting their ass there for 15-30 minutes. Starting to kill maybe 1 guy per 3-5 minutes. Waiting for me to make a move. Oblivious to my location.
Due to it being a small map, there is less prep and chase. And from the 3-4 real vantage points the map has, 2 are in same building. The devs chose an arena-type map as their first map. It will be played the most by invaders. I hope they are open to change and optimize it in the long run, making the map a little more balanced and fun to play for newcomers and vets. Its a map that needs a bit of love as we figure out small hickups that might promote bad behavior by players. The anti camp mechanic already forces you to move. But those locations equally allow enough movement in safe locations/directions to stay there.
- And invasions are a lot of fun. Crossplay, gamepass. You will have a few encounters against often duo-veterans. But they are like 1/10 matches. Most of the time I encounter beginners who need a bit of a thrill. But I played Predator Hunting Grounds as well. And once I started winning 19/20 matches in that game. It was the predator experience making it feel like the movie - for them - which sold the experience for me.
I pledge to do the same in this game. Having the absolute saint of patience, to wait out their game. But I prefer to engage at some point, and I won't stalk long in a rematch. But the church. It needs a little love. And I don't mind something audible so the player in the church gets a clue someone is coming up.
