I do not think they are more detailed, just more densely packed, because the maps are smaller for various missions. Also, you have more town levels, not so many fields and rural areas as in SE5. Biggest difference I can see is that sniping is now a viable option with several great vantage points where you can snipe lots of enemies, something SE5 rarely allowed you to do. Soy Academy came close, but Resistance has great sniping opportunities on every map, and not just one, but several. Some even allow you to see basically the entire map, which is kind of crazy.
Mission 3 is a prime example, you can clear a substantial part of the map from your spawn point even , you need not even move. Or just a bit to the side here and there.
