Games For Windows Live Closing

FYI: This affects to old games. New games like Resident Evil 6 uses Steamworks or other features that doesn't depend on Games For Windows Live.

Games like Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City uses the Games For Windows Live service to activate and register games Windows Live users account, as well as to save games.

The GFWL service will shut down on July 2014. Therefore I strongly request to Capcom to update his games that are in steam (and outside Steam, of course) and uses this service to apply an update patch to NOT use the GFWL service. If it doesn't, the game life of many old games of the company will come to an end when the service shuts down, leaving them unplayable since these depend of the GFWL, and therefore those getting out of the catalog of Steam.

They closed the Windows Live Messenger server (aka MSN messenger), so I don't think that this could be considered a hoax.

Capcom, please react before it's too late.

Even if GFWL still works you can play in co-op mode on offline profile playing by LAN. Offline profile is enough for me, I do not need to log in GFWL. And while GFWL works I do not reccomend buy this game on Steam becacuse it is much more expensive than in video game shop and you have to still use GFWL. Microsoft are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ misers!

Well the price is on Capcom, they've never been known for lowering the prices on their digital goods. It's always been that way with them. Activision is another company that does the same thing. Specially considering I bought RE5 for Xbox 360 for a grand total of like $18 with all DLC.

Hell, Revelations has been out since like 2012 and it's just a port of the 3DS game and they still charge for it as if it's a brand new game, $50 is way too much for a handheld port that looks like a handheld port no matter how good it is, which it is, imo, very good. Just expensive.

i m a huge fan of Resident evilseries but Resident evil 5 and Operation racoon city drove me crazy ... i bought them and i just cant play them .... an all of this thanks to GFWL service . i will not buy anything but anything again that has to do with XBOX and Microsoft products .

Never had any real problems with GFWL and it's 2016 and all my GFWL games are still working. The only problem I did have was with using up activations in Lost Planet and trying to get a reply from MS support is like trying to get blood out of a stone.

GFWL is still working, albeit barely. Microsoft still has it to make the existing games working, any other functionality is gone I'd think.

I would try the devs of Lost Planet or Steam Support, perhaps if you could prove you have a GFWL CD Key they could hook you up with a Steam version, which is what a lot of publishers have done with GFWL being decomissioned.

I had the retail version. I've just bought the steam version during the sale for £1. Less hassle than dealing with MS and at least now it works.
