Resident Evil 5
Games For Windows Live Closing
http://www.gamezone.com/news/2013/08/19/games-for-windows-live-to-be-discontinued-on-july-1-2014

FYI: This affects to old games. New games like Resident Evil 6 uses Steamworks or other features that doesn't depend on Games For Windows Live.

Games like Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City uses the Games For Windows Live service to activate and register games Windows Live users account, as well as to save games.

The GFWL service will shut down on July 2014. Therefore I strongly request to Capcom to update his games that are in steam (and outside Steam, of course) and uses this service to apply an update patch to NOT use the GFWL service. If it doesn't, the game life of many old games of the company will come to an end when the service shuts down, leaving them unplayable since these depend of the GFWL, and therefore those getting out of the catalog of Steam.

They closed the Windows Live Messenger server (aka MSN messenger), so I don't think that this could be considered a hoax.

Capcom, please react before it's too late.

I'm happy they shut down this crappy service, but onthe other hand the devs have to update this games ASAP, we spent our hard earned money on this games and we demand to have them patched out.

I doubt capcom will do anything to RE5, they'll probably only path RE6

1) Of course they won't patch anything.
2) Start reading, Resident Evil 6 uses Steamworks.

Capcom Must patch, or else they'll earn not the quite good reputation.

Let's take a peak to the future: a player buys RE5 in a sale, but he can't play it because GFWL is shut down and the company didn't made any patch for the game.
- The player will demand a refund. When someone pays for a game, he/she expects the game to be accessible and playable (in term that you can continue the game and it can be saved to play later).
- If complains about the game being unplayable gets to the staff of the catalogs (sample: Steam), someone may investigate that. And if developers didn'tt apply the patch or offer alternatives to play the game in full availability, and the investigation concludes that the game is not playable, the games affected with GFWL will get out of catalog due to that.

It is in their best interest to patch games that use GFWL, or else they'll lose a lot of money and maybe fans.

You're talking about Capcom. You know the ones that made more mistakes the past years than humanity since their beginning. They didn't fix Resident Evil 4 and they won't do anything for it's lousy sequel.

Oh, your little theory it simply ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Steam will continue selling this game normally. They only will add warnings about the GFWLs inactivity at Resident Evil's Shop Site. Refund on this basis is thus out of the question.

I forgot to mention: a good bunch of games that uses GFWL needs the user to be logged-in in order to save the game and continue later. People will see it worthless to pay for a game that is 20 hours longs (sample) but they can't save the process and have to begin all over again every time they run the game.

And to add to the theory: it's not only about the game being available, it's about being able to play long games from start to finish with the guarantee that we can resume anytime we wish without inconvenience.

Refund will be out of question when people can play the game entirely at any time, and that includes Save and Resume.

well, i dont think this is a real end. maybe microsoft merge GFWL PC to Xbox live Service.

On any Windows fone, the service is Xbox Live. is better manager using 1 system to multiple instances to acess same thing.

i dont know but, in my opinion, GFWL is a Silver Grade on Xbox Live.
maybe microsoft will make a Xbox Live Gold PC edition.

On one side, you're right. It is better to handle one system than multiple instances.

On the other side: Xbox Live Gold PC edition would be a really bad idea. The name itself gives me the impression that the player would need to pay for the Xbox Live Gold, which is like that in the console. Creating that service for the games that uses GFWL would make people to play it less, or not play it.

What I request is a patch or an alternative that lets people who bought the games to keep playing them without losing access to these, without losing Save and Resume features, and without paying any more money to play it properly.

Gamers have their priorities. When they buy a mix of new games and classic games, they will play the new ones first most probably and leave the classics for later. RE5 is already a classic.

Hi (sorry for my bad english),
i just sent e E-Mail to CAPCOM for furthers informations.

Here is their response:

Thank you for contacting us.

We did receive news from Microsoft regarding Games For Windows Live.
What happens to the games and downloaded content that I purchased?

"You can continue to enjoy previously purchased games and downloadable content in your catalog by downloading it through the Games for Windows Live client. Although the purchase functionality will be discontinued, the Games for Windows Live service will continue to operate as usual."

Further details are available from:

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/pc-games/pc-marketplace-closing

Yours faithfully

Stephen I at Capcom Technical Support

So, only market place will be closed, the games will still operate ;)

Thanks for your concern replykate38.

Now about the response that Capcom gave to you: it doesn't help at all. Some (or most) of the people are aware that PC Marketplace will be shut down in a few hours. What they tell you is that you can download games from the GFWL client, but you can't buy games from that client anymore.

The games will still operate always that the GFWL service is available in the current situation. GFWL will be shut down in July 2014. That's why I request a patch to play the games without GFWL now: anything may happeng during the making of the patches and updates, and you know what happens when people leave work for the last moment.
