Then choose to upload new save to the cloud... Here's how.
This worked for me.
1: Disconnect from internet temporarily.
2: Close steam completely
3: Delete save game file in the steam/userdata/21690- folder
4: Then click on your shortcut to Resident Evil 5
It should try and open steam, choose offline of course since
at this point you are still disconnected from the web.
The game should try and load giving you the option to create a save :-)
PLAY for a while !
No promises, but this did work for me more than once.
I started a new game about 3 times... LoL
In your case you may want to re-enable cloud saves if you haven't already.
Then later on when you connect back to web, it should also ask
if you want to upload or download save file. I chose to upload the
new save of course.
What i dont get is that Games For Windows Live normaly starts up, but not after the steam update.
C:/Windows/Program Files (x86)/Steam/Userdata/xxxxxxx/21690/Remote
If you know anything about directories it should be there yes sir !
If it's not there, and you are sure, delete game and try re-download.
Also starting the game while disconnected from internet after you "close steam first"
should prompt to make new save.
I paid for the game, the least I expect is that it will tested. Eight ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hours lost. Thank CAPCOM and STEAM !!! It is a small outburst, forgive me, but I needed to write it. Even though no one will do anything.
Your old save game is still there, unless you deleted it yourself.
The new version uses save in different location. Once the tool to import
the old save is completed, you will be able to get old save back.
LoL, sounds like you have all the luck.... Bad Luck !
Lots of games will not save if crash, it's like hitting Alt-F4 and opting out.
Sorry to hear that but you should be expert now after 8 straight hours.
I'm not sure what you are saying, All I do know is that this DOES work for creating
a brand new save game file.
You can force game to create a new save file (or at least I could).

Somehow i dont have that folder, but strangly and lucky I my self manage to solve the problem, by doing a rightclick on the re5 desktop icon, and i replaced an earlyer file in the fane earlyer file info. So Now it asked me to make a save, and im guess im ok. And Im happy. Might be worth spreading this?
When I press "Start" i am asking to create a new saving file if I want to save my game. Of course, I select "Yes" then I get this message : "Backup Failure" :\
That means I can not create any saving data file for this game so far !!
I just played the game and played 6 hours with no save lol. Windows Live profil & Cd Key seem ok, I had this game from Steam.
Hope you may help :P
This is going to sound foolish to some of you, but keep in mind, when the game opened in full screen I couldn't see any warnings. The answer that I found was my internet security program (bitdefender in my case), had labelled the actions of RE5 trying to save as possible ransomware activity. I couldn't see the message that bitdefender had put up, and after it had blocked it the first time, it just continued to block it without any warning. If you go into the protection panel dashboard and find blocked programs, pat bitdefender on the head for being cautious, and then tell it to Allow the program. After the ban was lifted, saving was possible again.
Yeah, like I said. This may seem obvious to some, but I didn't see the message, so I had completely forgotten about my internet security program trying to play bouncer in the background.... Don't worry RE5, you're back on the list! ... as well as UT3, lol. Hope this helps!
Not sure, but I think the link I used 1 year ago was this one :
It is called " Finally ! A method to DELETE files stored in Steam Cloud servers! "
That we have to understand here, is that sometimes, for GFWL or any other reason, there are 2 saving levels : 1 saving from GFWL and 1 from Steam. If these 2 encountered a pb, it can block the possibility to save your game.
Through the tuto, you will reset the Steam one and afterwards, the saving pb will disappear.
Hope it will help :)
