I bought RE5 2 days ago and it don't work. When I click on play game another box comes up that says chose what DirectX version to run. I have DirectX11 and it don't matter which one I click the game never loads. No errors come up. Nothing happens. What should I do about this?

you have to wait until steamworks transition is over. I cant make the game work on windows 8. you'll have to wait.

Should I ask steam for my money back then? And thanks for the reply, I was looking through posts and see lots are having issues.

Steam's policy is to only give one refund for the lifetime of the account unless at their discretion there are extenuating circumstances. I'm not sure I'd use my one chance at a refund on a £15 game personally.

Anyway, let's see if we can get it working for you!

Firstly, go download the Direct X 9 runtimes from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Then run & install it - this will ensure that you have the latest Direct X 9 updates installed on your system.

Secondly, the games for windows live installers provided with the game are outdated. Remove them and completely then install the latest version:

Uninstall "Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE" as well as "Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace" via the Windows control panel.

Download and install the latest version of the GFWL software from:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/pc/DownloadClient

Note: If you're using Windows 8/8.1, you may have to run the installer in Windows 7 compatibility mode for it to work correctly.

With any luck, that'll get the game working for you (make sure to select the DX9 option to start the game).

I did update the DirectX with the link, but when I go to the xbox link to download and click on download nothing happens here. The download dialog box never comes up.

Try this direct link:
http://download.gfwl.xboxlive.com/content/gfwl-public/redists/production/gfwlivesetup.exe

Note: You may have to copy/paste it into your browser for it to work.
