Resident Evil 5
A few questions
I loved this game back on console. I've been on Steam for a while now, and I play this game very frequently, but there are a few things I've been curious about in terms of this game's playerbase on PC ever since I started.

1. No friend requests after long session/playthrough... Why not? I've always considered this game to be one of the best games to make friends while playing.

2. Do people start sessions and go afk? There have been times where I've gone down an entire session list trying to join people, and end up waiting a solid 10-20 minutes with no response before trying someone else. Yet no matter who I tried, it seemed like everyone was just afk, and sometimes the list would say they've been on the same chapter when I check back hours later.

3. Do the majority of players choose to play without infinite ammo as a self-imposed limitation? I personally prefer to not have to worry about ammo, but judging by how many players have it disabled, I'm guessing I'm in the minority.

4. Chapter 5-2 Uroborous boss fight... do other players actually WANT to fight that? I try it normally with my partner the first time we walk in, but when one of us ends up dying about an hour into the fight and have to start over, I just bring a rocket launcher and end it the second we load back in. And after that... my partner just ends the session. Shame, considering chapter 5-3 is one of my favorites.

5. Why are some players so bossy? "Come on! Come on! Come on! Hurry! Jill! Hurry! Jill! Jill! Jill! Take this! Give me an herb! Give me a grenade! Wait! Go! Give me a can of First Aid Spray! Go! Go! Go!" Like, dude, can I go grab that jewel? Maybe shoot that emblem? Are you Kratos? You going to start telling me when to shoot?

6. Why do some players try to kill Jill during the boss fight in chapter 5-3? Judging by their inventory, I can tell it isn't their first time playing the game. Yet once we reach that part, they go after Jill with a shotgun or magnum first chance they get... in the first phase. When the device hasn't been revealed yet. So it isn't as if they're trying to hit her chest. (Maybe they are, who knows? But it should be apparent after 1 or 2 shots that it isn't going to work until phase 2) But I end up having to put myself between my partner and Jill and spam the "Wait" command while my partner tries to empty their Hydra on Jill's face. Sometimes killing Jill once is enough to make my partner realize that it's a no no.... and other times they still try to do it again.

7. I think I can tell whether the host uses a controller or a keyboard by their inventory layout. Can anyone confirm?
Keyboard and Mouse = Weapons in top 3 slots.
Controller = Weapons in top middle slot, left/right middle slot, and bottom middle slot.

I try to answer some of your question.

3. Yes. They (sometimes) dont like infinite ammo (same with me), except pro campaign.

4. Yes. I also kick out the player (or quit from his/her session) when i saw my partner use RL. Beating that uroborous just need to burn him in order to expose his core (he has 4 cores)

5. Perhaps she/he is newbie

3.to have some challenge at campaign is a way to enjoy the game after so many years.
4.the 5-2 BOSS fight might have some bug or something, since the weakspot won't pop out only if you damage it with gastank or incendiary weapon, while the flamethrower just seem to useless
6.jill actually count as a BOSS in the game, and kill her in 5-3 did recorded in the defeated tab in the records.so they might just want to complete the list.

Ha ha I think saw you many times on random coop sessions. You have a Jill mod instead of Sheva but I crashed immediately upon joining you.

1. I dont think they didnt want to add friend, they just cant. If you dont remember your partner's name and find them on steam and add them at the end of your coop session, they are gone forever. I think it's possible to view gamer profile from the list of open coop sessions, but to be honest, I dont think anyone wants to add someone they know nothing about nor have not played with yet. Only in mercanaries mode that you can actually open gamer's profile on steam and add them from there.

2. Yeah, some goes AFK.

3. I think that's because lots of them are on their first playthrough or unable to enable infinite ammo. After that it's 50/50, people wants some challenge after indulging in infinite ammo ha ha.

4. Ah well, I just think that your coop partner decides to call it quits because it had been a really long and exhausting fight, so they need to take a rest after it's done. Don't think too much about it. Some actually dislikes rocket launcher because it takes the fun out of it, very understandable.

5. Lol just think of them as kids who didnt know better yet ha ha.

6. I have no idea why is that either. I know of speedrun tactics involving shooting Jill's device consecutively after shooting her knee but that's for the later stage, and by your description, it doesnt look like they are doing that either.

7. Ah well yes of course, that's a dead giveaway what kind of control they are using ha ha.

1. I think it's because it runs on GFWL. Recent players don't seem to show up in my steam 'recent players'.

2. Same for me. It's strange. Also, a lot of people seem to wait for people to join their chapter 1-1, the game starts, they look at you for a few seconds, and then boot you. I've had that happen so many times by different people. wtf?

3. I find infinite ammo very boring and unchallenging. I play a lot of mercenaries with Wesker STARS for high scores though, so pistol with finite ammo and mostly melee kills is my style.

4. I think there's a bug in that boss fight that stops you ever being able to kill it without a rocket launcher. I may be wrong. But a few times I have also been in that boss fight for 30-60 mins without being able to kill it

5. I haven't seen that happen

6. I haven't seen that happen either, but azumanganx's explanation might be right.

7. That actually explains a lot to me. I always wondered why people put guns in spots that aren't D-Pad shortcuts. I thought they were just noobs

1. Players in campaigns are often doing one-through runs. Also I'm not sure how to add friends after a session's over ha ha. Maybe I should check that out. I don't even know how to add a friend if I'm currently in a game with them - usually if I'm adding I go into their profile through shift + tab or whatever but that's before the game starts . . .

2. You won't join a game unless a player restarts or reaches a checkpoint. So yeah often you can apply to join, but if they're in a long section then it'll be a while. 10-20 minutes isn't terribly unusual - if you have a pretty strong player that's fast then they'll take a short while, but if players aren't really on point, if they're looking around (happens a lot for BSAA emblems and gems) then eh.

3. I can't speak for the majority. Personally I usually start a level with a spray (to bring back to full health in case I started damaged and either starting handgun / Ithaca, or V761 machine gun and S75 rifle - all unmodified - and I'll only use more ammo if I'm on I think 5-1? Because it's just too easy otherwise.

Lot of players that use "limited ammo" though use trainers . . . so their guns automatically refill with ammo or they're carrying 99 grenades all the time . . . I dunno why. I just quit those games. If I wanted to do that, I'd join an unlimited ammo game . . . why use limited ammo then use a trainer . .. .

4. I prefer to fight stuff without RPG. 5-2 boss - what is it, like limit frames to 60, tip over gas canisters, let boss absorb into body, trigger explosion with flamethrower, keep spamming flamethrower while partner blows up the ball weak points, repeat. Then I don't know but MAYBE firing on the boss while it's on fire pushes it to expose its weak points. Maybe.

It doesn't take too long if you do it right. But yeah I prefer to fight it. It's not too difficult if you know what you're doing. But usually I pack an RPG just in case my partner doesn't know what to do and blows up all the gas canisters and whatever without waiting for the flamethrower.

5. "Come on!" is just one of those kid meme spams or whatever. It's not that they're being bossy, I guess? More like they're bored, or maybe they think it's funny, or whatever.

As to "give me a herb" or whatever - if they're asking for an item, I'll just hand it over. Sometimes players want to collect stuff. Like I'm collecting flash grenades right now. If a player wants a herb or whatever, I don't mind if they have it.

6. Some players played before but forgot what to do. Or they used a trainer or whatever to get items. Or whatever. Who knows. And some players are of course just trolls. But whatever.

7. Why would keyboard / mouse users put weapons in top 3 slots? Is there a hotkey function or something? I use controller, I wouldn't know.

But yeah, I use controller and I usually put my weapons in left/right/top/bottom slots.

there have been many people ive wanted to add but they had a unique character in the name that i couldnt remember. steam doesnt add coop players into their recently played list for this game for what ever reason and the only time it displays the other players name after joining is when you die and even then its only for a brief moment. i think i did play a few rounds with you as well. I unfortunatly quit every few levels because theres no chat to tell people i need a smoke break

Thanks to everyone for the replies, and I apologize to anyone who's game crashed upon letting me join- I don't play vanilla Re5 anymore, I use the GE Ultimate Trainer for model swapping. Back before I got a PC, I could only ever Dream of playing through the story as my favorite characters. I only ever play as Jill or Rebecca, and you'll see my profile name change VERY often to say either "Jill Valentine" or "Rebecca Chambers". The reason for that is so when I join someone, it tells them "Jill Valentine/Rebecca Chambers has joined the game" and when we get into the game, they see that Jill/Rebecca has Actually joined the game.

I also enable Infinite Ammo in the trainer because Model Swapped characters can't use infinite ammo normally, but now that I understand it bothers some people, I might start switching it off if I join someone who disabled it.

As for the crashes, it's because of Jill. I have no idea why, but Jill seems to be cursed. Crashes happen during 1-1 talking to butcher, 3-1 if I trigger the magnum spike trap, 4-1 when Popokarimu shows up again, 6-1 if I trigger the crane trap, 6-2 when you trigger Uroborous Aheri, and 6-3 when you go down the elevator.

Rebecca is crash-free, oddly enough.

Sometimes I play as Jill because I love her character, and I have always thought about how awesome this game would have been if Jill had stayed Chris's partner. They have a lot of chemistry, and yet there is no coop game with the two of them as the main characters, and sadly... nobody plays Lost In Nightmares.

The only way for Jill to be crash-free is to join someone who uses the trainer with the same settings, which is very rare.

If you want a Lost in Nightmares partner, either keep checking (rarely there's a game going that you can join - very rarely), or post in forums, set up a time (mention date.time in UTC, it helps with coordination)

I've tried that before, but there's a few things about it that bugs me. Left-handed, doesn't have Jill's knife or melee moves, ponytail is completely static, and Chris's voice is bugged whenever Jill dies. He goes "JIIIII-" and cuts off.
