Weighted RNG?
The RNG seems rather weighted towards being in the AI's favor?!
It never fails a tackle...Block...Pass...Anything...Yet I consistantly fail EVERYTHING no matter how small the task is.

No. Simple as that.

There is plenty wrong with people's perception of how dice should roll, what the probabilities actually are, how many dice they roll and which results they remember, and the skills such as loner (and tbh the way it is depicted does not help matters), but there is nothing wrong whatsoever with the RNG in this game.

Cyanide got a hell of a lot wrong when it came to turning an excellent board game into a PC version of it, but the RNG is not one of those things.

It just seems consistant that everytime I roll for say a tackle or a defend I come up on the losing side regardless of character be it a hero or skanky little linesman.

It "seems" a lot of things, but actual analysis has shown it to be fair, up to the point where someone created a (now defunct) dice prediction program which showed the correct results 100% of the time. We know exactly how the RNG works: it's a Mersenne Twister which takes the results and uses either a modulo or a simple division to get the results depending on whether it is doing d6 or block/2d6 dice.

Sorry Khanage, but it's perceptual bias and nothing more.

kAHnage ;)

Ah fair enough, if it's been proven to be fair then I guess it's fair, guess I just need to learn to play better to avoid being battered :) It just felt like I was being thrown to the wolves who seemindly had a 30 sided 6 sided dice at times!

Sorry, I just saw Khan and typed it :)

You are, with all due respect, correct: you need to play better. People who have played a while rarely lose to the AI: I lost once about 4 years ago, but I had a solid TT background to fall back on.

As far as that goes, take a look here: https://fumbbl.com/help:The+Taoch!+of+Blood+Bowl%3A+A+Condensed+Guide+for+Newbies
It's a pretty solid starter's guide. There are also some decent guides here about blocking and how to maximise your chances of success. Start with this one: http://www.thenaf.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/The-Art-Of-Blocking.pdf

Oh much appreciated :)

Most reasonable "RNG is hosed" thread ever. Only took 7 posts.

Well I'm not going to mindlessly argue against people who clearly know what they are talking about and can prove to me that their case is right and I just misunderstood what I was seeing.

Not everyone with a complaint on the internet is a mindlessly aggressive pre-teen child who just wants to fight and be told they are right ;)

The dice is slightly weighted to 1 because of the rng code but its so slight to be less than an extra 1 rolled per match. The AI does cheat tho, as the dice are all rolled at the beginning of the match and it wil only cause a turnover if it has no actions left it can succeed on. Hpowever as the game is far to tactical for the AI to deal with a player can trounce it easily with practice.

1. The dice are weighted away from 6 ever so slightly, but it is by far, far less than one roll per game. We know this because the information was released as to how the weightings work by the person who created the RNG predictor. These are those weightings:
Roll Instances Percentage ---- --------- ---------- 1 715827899 16.666667 2 715827899 16.666667 3 715827898 16.666667 4 715827899 16.666667 5 715827898 16.666667 6 715827802 16.666665

For the Block Dice:
Attacker Down 715827885 16.6666667 Both Down 715827882 16.6666666 Push 715827882 16.6666666 Push 715827882 16.6666666 Stumble 715827882 16.6666666 Defender Down 715827882 16.6666666
As you can see, a difference of less than 100 in 700,000,000 is utterly irrelevant in a game where ~300 dice are rolled.
This is a link to a copy of the original post by the guy who made the dice predictor: http://forums.jeuxonline.info/showthread.php?t=1102979&page=3#post21629093
His own website which originally hosted it appears to be no longer operating.

2. The dice are NOT all rolled at the beginning of the match. All you get is a seed and an algorithm (the MT). The algorithm is applied to the seed at various points until a dice roll is needed then the seed is converted into a roll and you see it, and so does the AI. The actual calculation is not done until the roll is required, so the AI has no idea what the roll is. The sequence is deterministic, insofar as the same seed will always give the same sequence of numbers and therefore the same rolls, but the AI has no idea what the sequence is because it is not worked out until it is needed.
For example, if I were to give you the sequence 2, 4, 6, 8 you would likely be able to work out that the next number is 10, but you worked it out. The AI has no means of working it out until the roll is called on: it doesn't have the same capacity you have to predict these things.

Well the good news is that things seem to be a bit more "fair" now I have a slightly better understanding of how it works so I know what it is I'm seeing...I also don't seem to be losing every dice roll!

Now to work on the fact that I obviously suck ass as I still can't get the ball and score ;)

@ Kahnage

Don't worry mate. You'll soon be beating the AI in your sleep. Don't stick with it too long though 'cause it seems to teach players a lot of bad habits and a non-sensical way of approaching a game (or that's my excuse for sucking anyway). BBTactics.com is a good place to get some pointers. Let me know if you wanna practice sometime. I play an inch better than the AI and am part of a group, that's more than welcome to newcomers.

There's an open league for casual fun and practicing as well as a weekly closed league, that usually runs 4-6 weeks long each season.

GL HF!

I might take you up on that offer :) Let me get back to you some time when I start doing better!
