Based on what you found, I am thinking it must have taxied through a hole in the ground and was operating under the surface of the map.
One way to get an idea of where an old aircraft signal is currently at is by targeting it and switching to an AA missile. once selected start spinning to likely places the lost target can be, if you are aiming at its current position (not were the lock-on signature says it is) the ring reticle (that tells you if the target is in the weapons effective range) will start to fill.
Once you are within range and line of sight of your target the icon will move to its new position and your camera will pan over to it.
Yesterday this glitch happened 30 mins into a game so when i was heading to the highway airfield I landed with my gear out but it acted like my gear wasn't deployed, there was also an AI plane in a revetment stuck, unable to take off.
After sitting on the runway for a minute the collision of the terrain came back causing my landing gear to brake off and get stuck into the ground. when i respond 30 seconds later the collision of the ground switched back off and i was once again unable to take off with any plane.
Curiously it doesn't happen to the whole map, only sections of it at a time. So spawning in other runways will still work just that you are rolling dice when trying to land at certain runways and the AI will still try to use bugged runways.
So maybe my bug is a different bug after all. It happened only once, though, so I can't repeat it.
