I focus on Swat, getting max level Assault Riffle and max level Ricochet as soon as possible (I banish grenades and the chopper to make it easier) and getting his weapon crit chance high via military training. I also choose items in a specific way - my main item is Modchip and all the other items are things that help me get higher weapon crit chance to make Modchip work better.
I also noticed the gameplay started to be much more relaxing after investing points into HP regen meta upgrade.
We have a lot of posts here commenting on the current Open Beta version, which is the reason for the confusion.
Our current goal is to lower the overall difficulty level a bit, while adding new difficulty levels to make the game more challenging for people who prefer it that way.
That being said... the live version is not anywhere out of line IMHO with other survivors...
TBH, the original VS I thought was a pain in the ass to get started and is one of my least favorite in the genre to this day (I don't care if it "started it" or not). I mean, like Army of Ruin (really bad) or even, I don't' know, most of them you have to get rolling... 20 minutes, Soulstone, DRGS, Twlight Survivors...
Sure, there's tons of easier (and harder) one's too... but don't forget a lot of games in this genre are cheap 5 dollar thrown together crap too meant to be pretty much one and done.
I found it better to focus on one ability to max upgrade asap in comparison to taking as many abilities as possible. And of course certain abilities are way more powerful than others and are more useful.
In the current version, you can successfully play and complete every single mode without progression at all (survival level 0). Its just matter of practice and your personal skill + a bit of luck sometimes.
assuming you are on beta 0.7
NM, they fixed this in the stable version, it defaults to level 1 and you have to choose to go to a higher difficulty.
