(Early) Game too difficult?
I'm like 4 hours in and I'm barely winning rounds, I don't have this issue with other survivors type games I've played, what is going on here? I feel like my guy is barely getting more powerful as I upgrade him and I'm not really getting the idea I'm starting to gain control over the mobs of enemies, like you do in other survivors type games. Which is usually what makes these games fun.

Ive played all the most popular ones like Halls of torment and Vamire Survivors, I didn't have this issue in those games. I feel like my guy is always under powered here, it takes ages to level up a character and the cooldown for weapons seems to take ages. Honestly what am I missing lol. My guy is literally standing there as I'm waiting several seconds on cool down for him to continue shooting his tiny pistol. Like what?

One suggestion I think might help the game, is if you could unlock certain weapons like the assault rifle so you can start the round with a better weapon like the assault rifle, instead of having to level up the pistol and SMG both like 5 (!!!) times before getting the assault rifle. like common, 10 upgrades before getting the assault rifle? At least tone it down to 3 upgrades per weapons, not 5.

I get these type of games are all about the grind, but honestly after 4 hours it's not getting more fun. This must be one of those games with terrible early game grind, and start to become fun after 10+ hours, but IMO that means the game is just unbalanced. A game should still be fun early on.

Second post? There is plenty of meta progression for carried over power. But first I must ask you? Are you playing the public beta of 0.7?
labtopia Sep 22, 2024 @ 9:04pm
The public beta is way harder than the previous build. I could do hardcore for 40 min in the swamp, now I cant get 10 min into the first level on easy....They stretched the runway out bigtime with breaking down each characters progress tree.

I think the early game difficulty in beta is fine (yes, I did reset my progress). I've beaten stage 1 difficulty 1 on my 6th try and soon I was beating this stage on difficulty 2. Those are actually much better results than I had when playing Halls of Torment for the first time.

I focus on Swat, getting max level Assault Riffle and max level Ricochet as soon as possible (I banish grenades and the chopper to make it easier) and getting his weapon crit chance high via military training. I also choose items in a specific way - my main item is Modchip and all the other items are things that help me get higher weapon crit chance to make Modchip work better.

I also noticed the gameplay started to be much more relaxing after investing points into HP regen meta upgrade.

Don't forget to invest in the badges as well
dinksmallwood1985 Sep 22, 2024 @ 10:54pm
Oh, I did invest in them, badges are great! I especially like the one from Engineer that reduces cooldown of weapons and abilities.

Also my favorite. Almost have it maxed.

Guy this post has nothing to do with the beta, I'm not sure why this was moved to the beta discussions. Yes my other post was about the beta, asking about the skill tree. But this post was about the normal game, and was a general post before playing the beta, so I dont know why it was moved. Please move my post back to the general discussions.

Hi! Sorry about the transfer.

We have a lot of posts here commenting on the current Open Beta version, which is the reason for the confusion.

Our current goal is to lower the overall difficulty level a bit, while adding new difficulty levels to make the game more challenging for people who prefer it that way.

Yeah, stay far away from the Beta if you think the normal game is too hard... not being insulting, but it's initially "much harder" even, until you get rolling.

That being said... the live version is not anywhere out of line IMHO with other survivors...

TBH, the original VS I thought was a pain in the ass to get started and is one of my least favorite in the genre to this day (I don't care if it "started it" or not). I mean, like Army of Ruin (really bad) or even, I don't' know, most of them you have to get rolling... 20 minutes, Soulstone, DRGS, Twlight Survivors...

Sure, there's tons of easier (and harder) one's too... but don't forget a lot of games in this genre are cheap 5 dollar thrown together crap too meant to be pretty much one and done.

I feel like the early game is too much of a grind and too hard in this one, I don't know if later game is also too hard (probably not when you are fully level'd everything). I feel like either this game could give you better weapons (for example start off with SMG instead of pistol) (but make it so you have to unlock the SMG first, and then you can use it from start). Or give you more experience points each round so you can level up faster. But that just my opinion.

Focus on one ability at a time when upgrading at the start. I played each weapon and ability separately to see how they felt. Everything should go better once you have a better idea of which things to upgrade for your preference.

I found it better to focus on one ability to max upgrade asap in comparison to taking as many abilities as possible. And of course certain abilities are way more powerful than others and are more useful.

Also double check to make sure you are not defaulting to a higher difficulty. I found after completing a map once it auto raised the difficulty on me unless I manually set it back to 1.

In the current version, you can successfully play and complete every single mode without progression at all (survival level 0). Its just matter of practice and your personal skill + a bit of luck sometimes.
endless is now impossible lol. gettting swarmed at the start.

make sure you choose the level, it defaults to 1 higher than you complete.
assuming you are on beta 0.7

NM, they fixed this in the stable version, it defaults to level 1 and you have to choose to go to a higher difficulty.
