Welcome to the YAZS FAQ thread! Feel free to propose questions to which we'll answer and update this thread with the most popular Q&A.



Is this a sequel to Yet Another Zombie Defense?
No — it's a spin-off. The sequel to YAZD is still an idea that we'd like to explore eventually, but YAZS will remain a side story of the series.

Why Early Access?
Simply put, we want to develop the game together with you! We believe, that we can build YAZS into a great title with the help of our player's feedback, starting from basic features and working up to the full-fledged title we'll all enjoy <3

Will you support my language?
Most likely — we'll be adding support for additional languages on the full release. Adding these in the Early Access phase would slow down the development of the game, unfortunately. Thankfully, it won't be a text-heavy game, so most of you should be able to enjoy it even before we add a set language!

Will the demo progress carry over?
Yes, we've updated the demo version in November 2023 so that your progress will be transferable to the Early Access / Full Version.

Will there be multiplayer / co-op mode?
We build the game as a single-player experience, similar to most games in its genre. We might add it in the future, but for now, we're focusing solely on the single player aspect to provide an awesome gameplay loop first and foremost. Thing with co-op part is that it takes not only tons of coding work, but also designing, testing & troubleshooting. Especially the online part of it. You'll have to adapt to an endless number of hardware configurations communicating with each other, while trying to send positions of hundreds of enemies and other props on screen without too much lag and synchronization issues. Maybe, but much later.

Controller support?
Already in! Dedicated, native support for every popular controller. We can't guarantee compatibility with bongo drums and steering wheels though.

Will you add manual aiming?
We did! You can find these settings in the game options. In addition, you can also bind hotkeys to them in the Control Mapping settings.

Will you add buttons for activating abilities?
We believe that we shouldn't. Adding an ability buttons create a similar issue as the one above, when the controls are getting complicated more and more, granting more power for the player who uses an advanced scheme over others, who want to just relax and enjoy the fireworks. We love hard games (we've made some of those already), but this time, we'd like to focus on simple & casual, yet addicting & fun gameplay loop.

I have a good PC but the game lags / freeze / stutter
Make sure the game is using your dedicated GPU and not an integrated graphics option, especially if you're playing on a laptop. You should also try disabling the VSYNC option, especially when using a G-Sync/FreeSync display. Please refer to our Official Troubleshooting Guide for further information on how to resolve these issues.

Will the performance improve further?
Absolutely! We'll be working on implementing more optimization techniques as well as providing more settings to customize how the game looks and performs.

Steam Deck support?
Absolutely! The game's already working fine on Deck with the default settings, using Proton compatibility layer. You can read more about it in its dedicated thread.

What about other platforms?
The full version of the game will be available on all current generation console platforms as well as Steam (Windows & Steam Deck / Linux via Proton). We'll be looking at ways to support additional platforms as time goes on.

I've had a crash / my game crashes, help!
Sorry about that! We'll do our best to help you. Please refer to our Official Troubleshooting Guide, which describes both how to troubleshoot this issue and how to find the crash log files so we can better help you.

How about Steam achievements, cards, and Steam community items?
Achievements are continuously being added with each Early Access major update. Community Items will be added on full release or shortly after.

Where is my save file? Is there a save cloud? How do I backup/restore my game save?
Your save file is stored in your Steam "userdata" folder, with each user profile containing a separate save game, which is also synchronized with the Steam Cloud. Additionally, the game creates up to 10 backup save files in case something goes wrong. Are there zombies in the game?
Yes, we're actively working hard to have zombies in the game. So far, so good.

what was the reason to not make the game COOP?

the split screen coop on the other games worked fine, so why not here?

Hey, thank you for your questions. We've updated the related question in FAQ.

It's not that we refuse to make a CO-OP mode, but making it takes a lot of time and testing. We're concentrating solely on the single-player experience, to make a fun gameplay loop similar to other games in its genre.

We do not rule out, that we might work on implementing a CO-OP mode in the future, but for now, the priority is to make a fun experience for every player to enjoy :steamthumbsup:

Not really a FAQ question, but how the Heck do you ever reach 10 minutes in the demo? I made it past 9 minutes once. About 50 fails in the 5-7:30 minutes marks.

I enjoy the demo, but I don't see any way to reach 10 minutes, you just reach the point there's no space on screen to even move. :)

ADDENDUM. I finally made it past 10 minutes :) What worked for me was to get the full trio squad but focus a bit more on upgrading weapons to the 2nd or 3rd tier weapons and focus less on upgrading the special attacks to some extent.

Any plans for achievements?

In testing playing the demo using only the initial Leader class chosen, Achievements for completing a 10-minute run solo using each class might be fun :) So far I haven't been able to get there with a single class, maybe to around 7 minutes.

Hello everyone, I spent the whole day enthusiastically going through this project and pumped everything that is possible now.

Wow, still impressed and I have so many questions.

I'll start with the easy ones first, and then I'll get more difficult.
So here it is:

Why did you decide to go into zombie networking?)

Why did you decide to choose automatic shooting instead of manual? (It's just that at first it was a little annoying that the bot does everything for you and you only play with one left hand). Not, of course, and this shooting has its advantages.

Right after this question, I want to ask if you will introduce active abilities? For example, in your agility tree you can see some silhouette of a character's acceleration at level 20. Or for example a game situation. Very often there is such a problem that zombies in a huge crowd go to your group by the end of the mission, and when you try to fight it and not get too much damage, you get it and even leave. I would like you to add an active ability in the form of a grenade explosion in a group radius, or throwing a grenade into a crowd of zombies, which would be spectacular and cool.))

Also, there are still questions about the randomness of talent drops. How will you solve such a problem as the loss of heroes? There will be more than 10 of them, as I suppose. And how do you want to randomly make the team you need? I suggest that you introduce some kind of restriction on the loss of heroes. For example, before the race you choose 4 heroes, and they will randomly drop out already in the process of the race itself and those heroes that you don’t need will not fall out, otherwise I don’t know how to play the right heroes. And yes, sometimes due to randomness, just the same, the necessary talents for leveling weapons do not drop out, but only for passives, although you had a theory for leveling only firearms, but okay.


And the most basic question is, will you add an endless mode here, (like rogue like ) . It's just that if the game is tied to a timer, then interest can disappear quite quickly, but okay ...

And so, I am very interested in your project, after all, zombie networking. uhhhhhh i love zombies.

2.击杀boss必定升级的技能效果怎么解释,三种boss击杀任意一只后并没有升级。
3.石肤效果并不无敌?状态持续中boss依然能够造成伤害。

Hi there, thanks for your FAQ! Loving your game.

2 doubts:

- Huntress passive crit skills are just for her or for the whole team?
- If I got the sniper rifle as upgrade, but want the assault rifle for the Swat, I just need to not choose it and hope to it appear in another choice roll?
