Does Gateways really need HiDef XNA Profile?
Gateways refuses to launch on my Parallels 8 VM running Win 7, with Radeon 6750M. It complains that I don't have a "HiDef" XNA profile, which may be beyond Parallels' translation ability. Gateways is the first game that I've encountered to actually not work on this setup, Skyrim runs fine, Alan Wake even drags by at 20 FPS. I never figured on a little 2D romp being incompatible, and am sorry I bought before getting the demo.

Edit - the new build (1.12 Humble) works. Thanks dev!

Gateways doesn't flaw for me. Idk whatta tell you.
The same. I bought it yesterday. I have never thought that 2D game won't work on my computer.:/
same here, thought my laptop would play this easily
If it's a known issue, why isn't it mentioned in the requirements section? If the dev can't bother being up front about a crucial limitation that affects users with certain hardware, I will spend my money elsewhere.
I've gotten this problem too

wish Steam would have a thing in its description about this problem before purchase
I'm sorry you guys are encountering this problem. It's difficult to specify the requirements exactly because the XNA HiDef profile checks for various different graphics card capabilities. The exact requirements are listed here - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff604995.aspx

As you can see, the HiDef profile requires a DirectX 10 (or equivalent) GPU. If a DirectX 9 card supports the features required for the HiDef profile then the game will actually run. Unfortunately it also seems that if a DirectX 10 or 11 card is missing just one of the required features then the game will not run.

I'll mention this to Steam and see if they will add something else to fully explain the system requirements. The requirements wouldn't really fit in the normal "System Requirements" bit that Steam games have but maybe they can add something else.
Parallels emulates hardware, which is why it has the limitation it does. Intel Integrated graphics are very basic graphics, designed to display whats on the screen, but not much more. Since the Integrated graphics you have does not support all of the features the game requires, you cannot run the game. ATI/AMD and Nvidia graphics are really what is needed to support these requirements.

If you get the message about no suitable graphics card being found that supports the HiDef profile then your graphics card simply isn't going to be able to run the game. It's not a bug, the game won't be able to run. Shuggy uses the Reach profile which is why it works.

So... for dummys, does this message being displayed always pass the final verdict or should I still check if it might be a software issue? My graphicscard passes most requirements beside not being DirectX10 capable, did anyone happen to play the game on a geforce go 7600, or can tell for sure that it will not run and thereby end any further attempts to get it running from my side?
This game ran just fine for me when it launched in September, but it's just now giving me this error. Wouldn't that mean my graphics card is in fact good enough and it's a software issue?
I have found this, may its possible to play for most! http://www.codingvision.net/xna/xna-disable-profile-check
