There will be a lot of rebuild as you notice. If you save blueprint with the absolute complex one, it will rarely be use because it is too specific.
I find myself doing a lot of the same basic transformations to shapes and found it easy to set up a foundation to do just that transformation so I can keep it in line with my belts. This one rotates clockwise, this one counter, 180, pins, etc. I even have a blueprint that will turn two solid objects into checkered pattern and one that will turn a solid into just the two opposite corners.
For symbols I'll do the basic factory item as one of them and add special symbols such as electric, crystal, or fluid if it takes those inputs or is related to them.
How many (main-)buildings x What does it do Format
e.g. 4x Cutter to Quarters Lossy 8x8x1
The number tells me, if I need more or less at my current upgrade level after placing it,
as I don't always create an exact variant for every upgrad elevel. If I have a 6x and 9x stacker BP and need 8, I use the 9x and delete one.
This might not be sufficient later. May need to define input and output shape.
But as long as it's essentially a cutter, painter, stacker-module, this works for me.
(regardless if for example a cutter module uses shifters or turn tables or whatever inbetweeen. It cuts up my input, so it's a cutter.)
I use those basic modules all the time.
Currently have about 2 variants of each. But not yet saved specific production lanes,
as I constantly need other shapes with different recipe.
And I'm still far from creating a MAM.
As for the icons: I use the leftmost column to signify the input and the rightmost for the output, if it's not obvious.
