High GPU power draw
Hello

The game max out my rtx 3080 power draw while on the main screen. My resolution is 4k and the preset is medium, and its using 380w! Which i find insane

Try limit the FPS to 60 (ingame or by Nvidia Control Panel). That works for me.

Limited to 60FPS and it dropped to 300w, an improvement but still high

Hey, for 4k you can also try using SMAA instead which should help a lot!

undervolt, decrease power, optimize. my 4070 is not even spinning fans....
Peeto Aug 15, 2024 @ 10:37am
OK, I admit, it is quite unusually high even for me. Extreme graphics details, sits on menu with 85 Watts power draw. But still acceptable ;)

To be fair - extreme is very demanding - high is already much less resource intensive and looks not much worse if you care about power draw :)

Another perspective:

I have an RTX 2070 and it would Black Screen crash my entire desktop.

I went to SMAA... Crash (took longer).
I forced it to 60FPS in game (not using Nvidia)... Crash
I dropped down from Extreme to High. That seemed to do it. So far I've been playing for an hour with no issues/crashes.

AMD Ryzen 5
Windows 10
32G RAM
RTX 2070

This seems like your GPU could be overheating

Yes?

Entirely possible. :-)

I checked temps throughout the first two plays using the Geforce overlay. They seemed normal. 50-59 degrees Celsius. Also checked power draw given OPs post; only about 150W max. It's possible I got a spike and that's what crashed it. Do you know of any tools that *record* power and temp, so when I crash I'll have a log?

are there plans to add DLSS? it would help the game's performance a lot since it's quite demanding.

thanks :)

The worrying thing is that shapez 2 seems to somehow tax the gpu in a weird way. Or maybe it just does something in a way that pushes the card?

Im running an undervolted 3060 for 3 years now and this is the first game which caused the card to go 85*C and 100% fans, it went so loud i was scared something was wrong :(.

I was playing hunt showdown today for hours earlier (with their new engine) and the card was stable at normal 60-70*C and 70% fans.

The solution here was to go "2nd vblank" which reduced the load.

To anyone in this thread, do yourself a favor and launch Shapez 2 in the Vulkan Graphics Engine. On the default graphics engine, I was getting close to 95-99% draw while in game with temps reaching up to 89 degrees C. While on Vulkan, I am getting at max 23% draw, and that is while I am tabbed out, with the game still in focus, while typing this comment. So,

TL:DR, Launch this game in Vulkan if you're having issues with GPU Draw percentages.

Above. And to the dev (or any devs really, having uncapped frame rates as default is never good. Sure allow it but by default it shouldn’t be set to uncapped. Several other games have done the same with uncapped default and had huge issues with their launched
