Tool to help spot certain shapes asteriods?
Is there some tool or in-game mechanic to help you spot certain shapes asteriods?

Unfortunately, no. It's an often requested feature, the developers are aware and have this request in the status "Under consideration".
The only in-game mechanic is making sure that the "this is the shape on this asteroid" label is toggled on. Since the game starts out with this on, you probably already use this.
For it not to bee too easy. There could be like a "search bar"
I want to find this shape.
And the map will hide everything that does not have that specific shape.

I use the MK-1 Eyeball.
I remember it being brought up for Shapez1 but it never came to be all these years later.

I'm not sure about this.
Did I wish to have such a tool, yes. Am I here because I was thinking the same, yes.
But...
1. The game is about altering basic shapes into complex new shapes. So having the ability to get already fitting shapes and only having to combine them once or painting them in order to get the end product is rather cheesy.
2. As afaik the world is random so there are some lucky people with perfect shapes just next to them.
3. For me the ability to find so much different mixed shapes after getting the space conveyer took away a huge part of motivation. Now I find my self searching for the perfect start shape in space everytime a new task hits. I feel this does not add to the game. It would have been better to stay with just the basic shapes where all 4 subparts are the same. Just add new basic shapes but not mixed shapes where, if you are lucky you just have to import the end product.

However, the ability of other people to be able to search for a shape rather than building it should not destroy your enjoyment of the game. If it does, that's a problem the game can't fix for you.

As random as you make it.

You can already have this in the game. look at the options you're given when starting a new game, there's a lot of map generation tools to suit the world generation to the player's tastes.

Only thing that part of the game's missing is the ability to save worldgen options so I can always generate a 1000% shape/paint gen chance map where there's no colored pieces or pieces that aren't full, single-shape ones (outside the starter area.) I also set shape target to 1000%, 1x1 platforms only and no full cutter, just because I find playing the game 'normally' to be too easy after several runs in all "shape difficulty" settings.

Even if there isn't a "search this exact shape" bar, I wouldn't mind filters. Initially, all shape indicators are visible, and all filters would be enabled. If you don't care about squares, then you deselect squares and all indicators containing just squares would be hidden. If you also didn't care about circles, then deselect that one and all pure circles, pure squares, and shapes only containing a mix of circles and squares disappear. Just being able to cut down on the noise would be helpful.

You explained this much better than I did.
I have multiple times goten a shape I wanted that was far far away from the hub only to find out that that shape is much closer later when everything is set up.
A little bit annoying specially when you are playing with limited platforms for some extra challenge.
