I can't bowl
I've studied the manual, I've followed the tutorial, I've persevered for a good 2 hours, but I just can't figure out how to bowl. It's the left thumbstick that's causing the problems, I've tried rotating it, tapping it, holding it, I've tried every variation possible but 99 out of 100 deliveries go wide with the very occassional fluke that is a success and can't be repeated, so it's not my controller. I'm completely out of ideas and just about ready to give up :(

XBOX controller?

For spinners-

1) Press L stick in any direction
2) Press Y or A or B for length
3) Rotate the L stick
4) Press R in direction you want to bowl

Hope that helps.

Cheerios!!

Thanks for the replies,It's an old Saitek controller, looks very much like a PS3 controller, same layout. I'll try the suggestion and see if it works

Just get a cheap/second hand xbox controller, brah.

I've ordered an xbox controller off ebay, lets see how I get on with it, I hope that's what the problem is and not something I'm doing wrong.
Definitely stick to batting until you get your xbox controller, wouldn't want to frustrate yourself out of a fun game. Keep at it in the nets perhaps?

Ok well I've got the xbox controller, and I still have the exact same problem, so it's something I'm doing wrong, but I don't have a clue what it is. I've tried the above suggestions, I've tried everything but I just can't do it, soo frustrated :(

I've started a new career as a batsman and just hope I never have to bowl. Having said that, I only managed to get 3 runs, I think the only thing i'm good at in this game is watching it from the pavilion!

You can do it though it needs some practice.
Have you played the tutorials in the practice game? Thats where I got my infomation and then developed my action. Bowling is really much easier than batting.
Getting your heart ripped out after the 20 or so appeals turned down by 'Weasel" face the umpire does take some practice also.

I've spent a good couple of hours in the practice game, I didn't find the tutorials very helpful at all as I kind of figured out for myself that you have to rotate the right thumbstick, the tutorial didn't mention that at all. The left thumbstick, it prompts me to pick a direction, but it doesn't tell me if I have to hold the thumbstick, or tap it, or rotate it. There's 2 gauges to the left of the screen, the lower one always ends with the little horizontal marker right over to the right (it turns red) with my first controller, and now right over to the left with my 360 controller, which results in the ball going wide every time, whatever I do, I can't change that. I know it takes practice, I was aware of that before I bought the game, but when you've practiced to the point of stamping on the controller out of frustration, then it's time to let it go and move on lol

You are talking about spin bowling I take it?
chrisriches36 Jul 5, 2014 @ 4:18pm
any bowling would be nice at the moment.

I bowl Medium pace. I use a 360 controller all instructions are for that controller and for that type bowler.

(a) Before you bowl you select the length of the ball by pressing either Yellow, green or red buttons. This STARTS the bowlers run.
(b) Immeadiately select the type of ball (ie Leg cutter) using the left stick
(c) hold it in that position until the needle of the top gauge is somewhere between the start and end of the scale
(d) at the same time as yoiu select the ball type watch the bowler. As he nears the umpire pull back AND LET GO on the right stick. This commences the arm swing of the action.
(e) almost immeadiately after that push forward on the right stick. This delievers the Ball. IMPORTANTLY this push forward on the stick determains the direction of the ball so you must ensure that you push forward on the stick straight otherwise the delivery will be angled and not where youd'd like it to be.

Important things to appreciate.
(a) Bowling needs practice to get your timing right.
(b) Its not necessary to land on the poping crease, you can bowl behind it until your timing is better
(c) Develope some 'core' bread and butter deliveries to start with. Better to do some things really well than do a lot badly
(d) If you don't get the timing on the left stick its not all that important as the delivery will be slower but still OK. The important stick is the right stick.

Hope that this helps.
To be honest I don't even notice the left stick much anymore as I find it more or less automatic after a while.

Oh BTW if this doesn't work try checking in game that the controllers is not inverted. This can be done for left handed people!

Have to amend the above.
(C) there is no need to hold the left stick as once started it is controlled by the right stick when you start the jump.
