Game will not launch for me at all
After the Dead Island Riptide splash screen loads for a quick second, the game will try to launch into full screen, and just crash. I have tried several times, with the same results.

I have verified the integrity of game cache, and it is 100%.

I have ran compatability mode under windows 7, and ran as administrator. No such luck.

Here are my system specs:

CPU: Intel i5 3570k
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 XT 2GB GDDR5 Tahiti LE chipset
Ram: 8gb Corsair Vengeance
Mobo: ASRock Z77 Pro4
OS: Windows 8 Home Premium 64-bit (NOT 8.1)

If you need additional info, please let me know. I would have posted this in the sticky bug reporting topic, but that one is locked.

Your OS: Windows 8 Home Premium 64-bit (NOT 8.1)

Supported operating systems: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7

However, many people have gotten it to work. Try these steps, but since you are running Windows 8, do #6 first, and if that doesn't work go back and start at the beginning. Your OS doesn't necessarily include all of the video codecs from earlier versions.

Do these one at a time in order:

1. Update video drivers.

2. Shut down Steam, restart it running as administrator, start the game. You should only have to do it this way once.

3. If that fails, verify the files (In steam, go to library, right click on Dead Island Riptide, Select local files, the push the Verify Integrity of Game Cache button.)

4. If still having problems, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\diriptide\Redist. Then, run the exe files in the three subdirectories, running as an administrator. (WMFDist11-WindowsXP-X86-ENU.exe, vcredist_x86.exe, DXSETUP.exe)

5. If still having issues and running Windows 7, try this http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19289

6. If running Windows 8, it is not supported, but works for many people after installing this http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/windows-media-player-12

Wonderful. Not supported at all? Usually when a later OS is not supported at all, it is mentioned. Like "Does not support windows 8"

Since tons of games that support 7 also support 8, even though not being mentioned, since it is a newer OS.

Anyway, I will give that a try, and hope for the best.

It's not that the OS can't run it... it is that things that are included automatically in the earlier OS versions were not all included in 8, which causes the game to fail.

I'm fairly sure you can get it to work with those steps once it has access to all the codecs it needs.

None of the steps worked

Also, I already had MP12 installed. Latest version. This is irritating.

I hope the dev has not abandoned the game for patches, and will fix this soon.

Did a little deeper digging. Seems to be fixed now

Apparently this game will not run on any hard drive other than where Steam itself is installed.

Kind of lame. This can easily be fixed from the dev by forcing installs on your main steam drive, like some games do. As to not cause further confusion from people installing it on externals and wondering why the game won't run.

That's one I haven't seen before. Thanks for putting it out there so other people can try that too if having issues.
