What is the difference? This vs Portable

PS3 Portable is on sale at the moment, but then I saw this - What is the difference between the two? Are they essentially the same game?

Persona 3 roloaded is a remake of persona 3. Before this, persona 3 had 2 versions, Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 portable (which was for the psp). FES had an extra playable epilogue known as "The Answer" which no one really liked because it was horribly designed and a slog to play through. Persona 3 portable was a version of persona 3 which basically took out the over world exploration and made it point and click as well as removing cutscenes due to the limited hardware, but it also included things like controllable party members in battle, and the option of a female protagonist which changed story scenes somewhat and had some new music and a few other things. This is the version of the game that got ported to PC. This also caused a divide between the FES people who said things like "We have overworld exploration and cut scenes" and psp fans said "But we have controllable party members and a female protagonist", i'm going slightly off topic here but still felt like mentioning that and to give context for reload.

Reload is remaking persona 3 and is including elements from FES like some new content, but not "The Answer" or the female protagonist. Many people will tell you that the female protagonist is the best thing about 3, but don't listen to them, she is just an alternative take on persona 3 for people that have already completed persona 3, Atlus says as much. So to answer your question, no they are not the same. This version will also include new story scenes, some updated game play (mainly stuff from persona 5 royal in terms of battle stuff) etc.

Its a lose-lose situation. You will never have "the definitive version" of Persona 3

If anything, mutantbeth is coming off more as an elitist. As offtheastral said, the game isn't even out yet. But she'll probably say something along hte lines of, ''It doesn't include the femc so it is automatically bad''.
