What are some tips on maxing all social links?

I just finished the game a while ago and there were a few social links I couldn't max out. I read online that you could apparently max all of them before the game ends but regardless I am trying to max all on my new game plus. Sometimes when I am doing a social link the game tells me that the mc doesn't think the social link would progress farther that day? What prevents social links from growing stronger? Do I just need to answer all of the correct responses for when doing the links?

It's a bad translation. It really means is you don't have enough points to increase to the next rank. Just spend 1 more time with them and you can get to the next rank next time.

The whole thing is point based just like the dating sims it's inspired by. When you give correct responses (and have a persona of the corresponding arcana) you get the max amount of points, so you don't have to waste time doing a "filler" link (where nothing happens) before you can advance to the next rank. However, the last couple ranks usually have higher point requirements, so just answering everything correctly won't cut it. And this is where it gets complicated as you need to find the most optimal ways to boost social links while spending as little time with the characters as possible. There are things like dates, gifts, going to the movies and so on, they all give varying amounts of points. One big tip though, prioritize school social links above all else, because they're not available on holidays while all others are.

But if you don't find it fun planning your days (if not weeks) in advance and reloading when the outcome is suboptimal, then consider following a guide.

Follow a 100% guide. Unlike P5R, the schedule in this is a bit tight. As for SL growing stronger, always have a matching Persona to the SL you are trying to rank also choosing the right answer.

I got every SL maxed out without a guide, thought I had to skip everything else like hangout with guys and prioritize school confidants first, then go for Sunday people and leave the rest for last. Night people were easy to do since you have plenty of time at night to do stuff.

It's good to have the matching low level personas for boost before meeting up, know what to say to people ( be a hypocrite if needed ) and visit shrine on days when you have nothing else to do. Get a dating pass at November / December from shady guy at dance club.

As for doing all that on Merciless Difficulty where you start with Social Stats at 1, I'd presume you would need to do everything to get those stats up asap which can be tricky if you don't know what and when to do. It's probably best to follow guide here. I believe the Temperance Arcana Major Card is the key to farm in Tartarus every night as it should increase the amount of Social Stat points that you will get on the next day, but you need to time everything right because the schedule is quite tight and leaves little room for error.

I barely got my last social link max out on January 31 with the teacher online. I didn't think I would be able to get them all. I did reload a few times when I realize I pick the wrong choice (didn't see any notes). I knew I hit the right answer when I saw the three musical notes. Some of them were tricky.
