Poor Aigis honestly.
In Persona 3 FES there's an epilouge called the answer where everything gets explained. To be fair they did make the fact that the protag died in this version less clear.
P4 is meant to be a sequel not only sequentially, but thematically, by addressing the "how" of making the most of your time, hence has the more upbeat tone, since it is about the "doing" rather than the "end".
Personally, I dislike some of what I call "Persona 5 paint" being put on P3, since it runs counter to the darker tones that make the game so poignant.
This explains a lot. Most folks that go into Persona 3 Reload already know what they are in for. I do understand where you are coming from, though. I didn't like the ending way back when either. But it grew on me. Since then, I've considered the ending to be more bittersweet than sad. So, just give it time. You'll get there eventually.
It's like going to a fast food place and complaining that you're eating fast food, like..what did you expect? Praise?
Less clear? It couldn't be more clear with how the final scene is presented in this version.
The original was extremely unclear about it and most people didn't even know he died until the answer just said it outright. This version is practically screaming at you with theming, shot compositions, and just overall presentation that he's dying.
This was my first Persona game so I have a bias opinion though. Still, I loved the darker tone of this game and I think it's a beautiful yet bitter game. It's the reason I had trouble even beating P4 'cuz it was too up beat compared to P3.
I will go back and beat P4G though sometime. I might hop into it AFTER I beat this one. I've never experienced PG4 and the farthest I got was up to Naoto in both original and golden.
