Koromaru walks explanation

So I was wondering when you can walk Koromaru along with other teammembers does it eventually lead to an ability for Koromaru or is it purely to gain some random loot?

I also skip walks that lead to meeting social links that I don't need extra affinity for. Do I miss out on anything if I do that apart from the boost for that social link?

Taking Koromaru to walk only give you some random items. You won't miss out anything except some small talk which increase points for SL as you already know.
