I have a theory why unicorn overlord is not on pc
I did not know this but this is actually vanillawhares first multiplatform release in the sense of multiple different familys of consoles. I am thinking that sense they are releasing the game oin xbox it can not be they do not think pc would be lucrative. therefore I think that they might be working on a pc release that they would release at a later date because pc is more daunting to work on then console. I hope they release there other games too.

Vanillaware is still alive? The last game I heard of them making was Muramassa: Rebirth. I think it's silly and frustrating that they are willing to support a console as niche as the Vita but not a behemoth as big as PC.
While perhaps fairly niche, 13 Sentinels was considered by a lot of people to be their sleeper GOTY when it came out.

Seeing a lot of similar sentiment regarding Unicorn overlord so far, and while the year is still early I sort of agree from what I've played so far.

Vanillaware are indeed still very relevant and on the map, just on on PC =(

13 sentinels is very story heavy while somewhat light on the gameplay.

I'd like for all of their games to make it to Steam - they would do extremely well. Most of all I want Dragon's Crown though.

Honestly, shouldn't Sega be the one saying whether a game should be ported or not just like how they pretty much told Atlus to port the last 3 persona games?

I have no doubt that Atlus is forcing full Japanese support for Vanillaware games on Steam and because Vanillaware is a Japanese company, it's highly likely that they have this same fallacy in their head of "outside of Japan no one speaks Japanese, so why release a Japanese version globally?", even though a lot of non native people learn Japanese.
Technically.... Ciel NoSurge is still stuck on the JP steam region considering its basically a pack of 2 games in 1 where the second game was localized but has been bleached to a certain extent that no references to the first game exists on the game code which is technically required to get the full context of the events that has been happening cause NISA...

since Atlus is the Publisher were not sure how exactly does that work, Atlus could make a port themselves assuming they 100% control the license which I think for most Vanillaware games under Atlus' umbrella "could" but that has something to do with contract law could vanillaware just grab the licenses back for OG Odin Sphere (the remake is under NISA), 13 Sentinels and Dragon's Crown no on can say for sure

It's the company that re-released Muramasa on PSVita only "due to the Vita's OLED-based screen, which we feel better portray the game's palette".

Someone send them a Steam Deck OLED already.. the best screen on the market in that format.

Yeah, I'm sure they're gonna sell more copies on the freaking Xbox.
Most games generally do, it's why you have such a big difference in revenue between the console and PC markets.

This is not 2008 anymore.

If this is the case then why do vast majority of JP games have PC but not Xbox?

What? That is not true at all..

Steam broke a record with 35 million on steam with over 11 million in games recently. That's a huge market to completely ignore. Nintendo ignore the PC market and look how Palworld sold on Steam.
It may have been true at one time that PC was a small market but Valve have changed that.
I noticed my son and his friends often prefer using a keyboard and mouse over a controller. (Roblox , Minecraft , etc. )

k+m is also better for me ...I love when games supports a mouse cursor because everything is so intuitive to control

Genre is important.
When I went looking for the collector's edition, Xbox versions were all that remained since Switch/PS5 sold out in a heartbeat.
Infact the few handful of obscure stores that I can find right now that still have remaining stock for the CE are all Xbox platforms.

I don't generally like to stereotype; but this isn't the first time I've seen something similar and I do believe the Xbox audience is more... COD and online shooter focused than JRPG/Tactics from experience.

Their loss, because I will play it anyway...and for free. You want my money? Put it on steam.
I am tired of these anti pc japanese companies.
