Doesn't seem that you should hold your breath. It's now confirmed that it's Vanillaware that has no intention to port to PC as they had it set in their contract/agreement to only do Console Ports for Unicorn Overlord. So despite their publisher (Atlus/Sega) wanting to bring it to PC, VW does not.
The screengrab is from Resetera but the quote is from a Destructoid post https://www.destructoid.com/unicorn-overlord-devs-talk-history-card-games-and-that-delicious-food/ and it is strange to see an Atlus JP staff member talk about wanting a PC version of a game, but I guess that's how much times have changed in the last few years. Maybe it's worth it to have hope that one day in the next few years we will see VW release their first PC port.
That doesn’t make sense at all. The games are developed on a PC. They port the games on consoles. There is no reason to port it back to PC.
The full Japanese support is the reason, why I love Atlus on PC so much. For someone who never played games in full Japanese, this sounds strange, because those people simply don't understand that normally big Japanese companies are gatekeeping full Japanese for fans outside Japan. Just imagine most games from English companies have no English outside of English speaking countries. This is your normal Japanese experience, if you don't live in Japan. Sega and Atlus are literally the only two companies I know which put full Japanese on everything. Just look at PlayStation games on Steam where Sony goes even out of their way to say "No Japanese for you, if you don't live in Japan".
I have no doubt that Atlus is forcing full Japanese support for Vanillaware games on Steam and because Vanillaware is a Japanese company, it's highly likely that they have this same fallacy in their head of "outside of Japan no one speaks Japanese, so why release a Japanese version globally?", even though a lot of non native people learn Japanese.
So yeah. Atlus wants a full Japanese port, Vanillaware most like says "いやだ", and that's most likely the reason why there is no Vanillaware port.
Personally, I don't care. Atlus is really stacking up their games this year and if Vanillaware hates money, then so be it. I think Atlus games are better than Vanillaware games, so it's not like I care if a company, which doesn't want my money, won't get it.
This year I still want to finish P3R, SMTVV, P3R-Answer, and ReFantasy... I mean Methaphor and I don|t even know if I have the time for an additional game this year anyway.
I can't for the life of me understand what Vanillaware's aversion to PC is.
Do they not realise how successful stuff like Symphony of War and the general SRPG genre is?
Ugh, ended up getting it on Switch. It's great. Would have preferred a steam/steamdeck/moddable version though. Shame they are stubborn like this.
They didn't even gave a reason, just said that VW made them (Atlus) agree not to port it to PC, because they said so...
Stupid japanese dinosaurs.
Like, there's a guaranteed amount of sales and a hungry audience here that would do insane numbers for their revenue stream - which they are leaving on the table and are acting pretty ignorant of :/
But it's a very Japanese thing. Some boomer higherup said "no PC because uhhh just no PC okay", and that's that, no one is gonna contest that.
