Persona 3 Reload

What kind of game is the answer?
I just beat the main game for the first time, and saw the announcement of the expansion pass. The answer is supposedly some kind of epilogue to the main story. How does it play compared to the base game? Does it have school sim and social link? Does it play like P5S to P5? What to expect here?

Nope. In the original the ending is... unsatisfatory - to say the least. While some people loves it, almost the same amount of others, including me, had left frustrated. I hope they improve some of the aspects in the remake.

No. The original is ♥♥♥♥ and with what they were willing to change in this 2024 remake. I'll doubt they change anything.
It's tedious, It's just hours of 'exploring' the same ♥♥♥♥ you already did in the vanilla game fighting the same mobs.
The only content you'll paying for is cutscenes so I suggest you just watch it on YT when it comes out.

It's a grindfest with little story. No school sim or SLs whatsoever.

That's disappointing. I think I might skip this then!

Not sure how much they're changing, but in the original it's just a couple recolored Tartarus blocks + 1 new boss. You can only explore the dorm and the mall, no school stuff or any social events. Aigis is the protagonist, however she loses her original skillset in favor of being able to fuse personas. You also get an additional party member, Metis (the girl shown in the trailer).

The original was very grindy due to being locked to hard mode, enemies getting 3x evasion to their weaknesses and no compendium (you had to catch the same persona again to try another fusion), also the EXP gain was pitiful. They are probably changing these things though.

The story doesn't say much you don't already know, it's more about Aigis's character development, plus a few flashbacks for other SEES members to show what they were up to before the events of the main game.

Thank you for the information. That doesn't sound like a very appealing sequel. It makes me appreciate P5S more.

Not a sequel and more of an epilogue. I would say wait until we can get more news. Its possible that they will update it to be a lot less tedious. There were a lot of questionable gameplay decisions in the original that they probably won't keep.

pretty much as been said. Basically it's more P3 without the social side when you boil it down. It's also not exactly necessary. It's just annoying that already existing content for the game was cut away for this purpose. (If it was something completely new I wouldn't be having this take.)

Its not meant to be a sequel.

And it having no social links is the ENTIRE POINT. The team is stuck in one single day, and you have to complete a massive dungeon to move on from it.

Its a metaphor. Now if the metaphor is "fun" is another question. Its much more difficult than the normal game, but that does make applying different strategies more fun.

The downside is that there was no compendium, which I doubt Reload will carry over. So the biggest actual issue is most likely solved.

Honestly I found it fun for the most part back in the day.... just didn't like the new character... at all.

Yeah.

Its fun if you're into the gameplay, and you finally get some more challenging enemy groups.

But since a lot of fans only play on Easy mode and for the social links and story, they don't get as much out of it.

Nah, more difficult still doesn't prevent it to be boring. It's the same the same and the same all the time. There is no change. If you don't get bored, you'll feel suffocated.

Edit: and all for a less than expected ending...

Is more dungeon crawler oriented, harder bosses and more strategic, there are story cutscenes between dungeons. The abyss of time is shorter than tartarus, if you like the gameplay you will get invested, but if you prefer the social link aspect you will get bored easily, but to tell the truth we don´t know which changes will be made in the remake.
