Red enemies
Finished the monorail and progressed far enough that red enemies appear on the map. The game warns you that they are tougher.

Fine I thought. Anyway I ran into one at like floor 30 and figured: what the hell.

I deal about 1-2% damage per character move and then the thing basically just wiped my party in the first turn. Killed my girl in the first attack with an aoe, wiped out junpei in the second and then got an extra turn and killed my MC.

I am playing on merciless, so I expect some pushback but even if I had known how to stagger the dude or tried to lower his accuracy/increase evasion, i do not think I have even remotely a chance. Maybe with mudon, but thats still just fishing.

Am I supposed to fight these at this difficulty?

I played on hard, so take this with a grain of salt, but first red enemies could be controlled. Just cast charm from Yukari. And proceed to beat it's ass. In case Yukari misses, you should have plan B on mc

so i don't remember yukari had charm, she has pulinpa which is confuse, charm belong to mitsuru (marin karin)

you can rely on rage (provoke), or use other ailments to prevent enemies movement, because red shadows usually have some ailments blocking, but they also vulnerable to some ailments (i mean player still able to inflict some ailments), for instance i used tons of rage against red aura shadow called elegant mother who dropped topaz earlier upon defeated her or that red aura shadow snake (forgot the name but it was at arqa)

i forgot how to stop the gigas, perhaps i was used yukari's bow called toy bow which had rage (high), early game i used tons of rage or confuse, endgame i rely with distress, critical hit go boom

Yeah, my bad. It's confuse, not charm. But it doesn't change the advice

Yeah, you can beat those guys, just depends on what they are weak to / what debuffs and or control spells work on them. I'm playing on merciless too. They are very doable and very easy compared to the challenges you face later on. If they bring you trouble, consider lowering the difficulty or just strategize and grind way harder.

I died on the first turn, there wasn't really anything to strategize towards. Even if I had known its weakness, Agi and Garu wasn't the weakness, so even if the MC managed to get the correct counter, there wasn't much I could do since the thing just one shot me on its first turn. And thats without my MC being vulnerable to the attacks.

Sometimes you just get unlucky, though that only happens very rarely and with a low level party. Anyway, just keep going, maybe grind out a few levels and try the red ones again. They're a cakewalk later on, don't sweat it.
