you can rely on rage (provoke), or use other ailments to prevent enemies movement, because red shadows usually have some ailments blocking, but they also vulnerable to some ailments (i mean player still able to inflict some ailments), for instance i used tons of rage against red aura shadow called elegant mother who dropped topaz earlier upon defeated her or that red aura shadow snake (forgot the name but it was at arqa)
i forgot how to stop the gigas, perhaps i was used yukari's bow called toy bow which had rage (high), early game i used tons of rage or confuse, endgame i rely with distress, critical hit go boom
I died on the first turn, there wasn't really anything to strategize towards. Even if I had known its weakness, Agi and Garu wasn't the weakness, so even if the MC managed to get the correct counter, there wasn't much I could do since the thing just one shot me on its first turn. And thats without my MC being vulnerable to the attacks.
Sometimes you just get unlucky, though that only happens very rarely and with a low level party. Anyway, just keep going, maybe grind out a few levels and try the red ones again. They're a cakewalk later on, don't sweat it.
