p3r or p5r? which one do you prefer
as someone who 100%'d both games. at first i was like this doesn't even come close to p5, the fact that tartarus felt like mementos and it was just repetitive unlike p5 with detailed castles, art gallery full of shadows etc. i also prefer the p5 social links to p3, the social links in p3 feel way too random and the urge to skip dialogue was usually there..
but storywise and which protagonist i prefer, it's definitely persona 3 reload, i cried.

You have to keep in mind that P3R is a remake of an old game, no matter how much they refresh the graphics, gameplay wise it's gonna be outdated, game came out more than a decade ago.

P5R is definitely very rich in terms of gameplay, but I just love the protagonist of p3 so much. Sucker for calm cool protagonist.

But team wise, I think both are quite awesome. I think P5 team bond is stronger than P3 in the way they hang out? But P3 characters are great as well.

Which one I prefer? I'm an oldie, so p3 is a nice balance, I think I might be able to finish it less than 100hrs. While P5 definitely require more than 100hrs imo :p

P5 is sometimes too rich in gameplay that I have so much to complete, it feels like a chore at times. But not complaining.

Man, can't decide. Why not just both? Lols.

Also I'm glad they kept the japanese dub for both, as I can't stand my JRPG games in English dub.

There's a lot of different ways to compare and contrast P3R and P5R. I've put in 3 playthroughs of P5 and 3 playthroughs of P5R, but the better one was always going to be P3R by default because it sticks to its themes and lands strong with the ending. P5R's conclusion is nonsensical, lazy, and underwhelming, while simultaneously dodging narrative and thematic threads that are too uncomfortable for the story to take a firm stance on (like Akechi). P5R could have done everything better than P3R, but a bad ending makes all of that not matter. Any of the now four versions of P3 are better than P5R.

Persona 3 Reload is based on an old game, so stuff like the repetitive of Tartarus can be enhanced, but not completely removed.
Persona 5 Royal has way better dungeons (let's call it that way).
I think ATLUS made an amazing remake with P3R, but at the end, the best of this franchise is that you cannot be wrong with whatever game of those you prefer, they all are amazing and each and everyone have their own essence.

Story? P3, 5R after a certain point just felt like a drag. The extra dungeon was cool and all and made me like a character I previously despised, but the game has like 4 points where it could roll credits and yet it keeps going.

Presentation? 5R, more voicelines in school sim parts, NPCs are actually moving around instead of standing still for some reason (not talking about clearly corrupted ones), Velvet Room attendants throw comments at you if you interrupt their dialogue while going through menus in fusions and more.

Music? lmao not even close, P3 wins

Characters? P3, 5R is fine but I really won't ever miss Morgana.

Gameplay? I suck at Persona so to me they're equal. No really, I can't believe its universal fact that these games are easier than Nocturne, its unbelievable to me. In any case, dungeons may have more to them in 5, but that doesn't necessarily make them fun.

Final thoughts? I hate that Atlus didn't put a fragment of effort P3R got in Soul Hackers 2 I prefer 3 for most stuff that's not gameplay related.

P5R is the better game overall but that is kinda not fair either because P3R is a remake of a 2006 game.

P5R for me. And P3 is not even close.

Much more difficult comparison for me would be P5 with a P4. Still think it's P5, but P4 is very close. And it's definitely just because of the gameplay and music. Gameplay's much more refined (duh, 10 years gap) and music in P5 is outstanding! It's the best soundtrack in video gaming! In P3 the only good track is "Battle for everyone's souls". And, yes it's really good, but it's one track

so far, persona 5 (never played R). its just a much newer game. though, i am enjoying this a lot more than fes when i last tried it. the inability to control the party annoyed me too much. and i didn't like losing the full animated scenes and walking around in the psp version either

Let's just agree that P3R, P4G & P5R are all awesome games, i wouldn't say one of better than the other, they each excel at different things.
- P3: best story
- P4: loved all the party members and they felt like true friends and an actual team, also there are some of the best social links in this game
- P5: best dungeons

This is an unpopular opinion, but my ranking would be P4G>P3R>P5R. I just think that besides the dungeons P5 doesn't stand up in any other department, of course graphics and gameplay are better but that's a given, considering it came out 10 years after the others.

With me I liked P3's story I tolerated the AI controlled party members and the other mechanics that game had. I didn't care for the combat system but I tolerated it. I played both P4 and P4G. I beat P4 on Normal difficulty and man I had quite a bit of trouble with getting through that one but eventually did it. I played through P4G several times enough to get over 230hrs into the game on the Vita/PSTV and got through a playthrough of P4G on PC. With P5 I have 1 complete playthrough and on NG+ I think I got to Haru's Dad's dungeon and just quit. And With P5R I have only 1 full playthrough back on my PS4 and never did a NG+ I don't like the new ending of P5R because it kind of similar to the ending of P4G That you get if you don't do the true ending and get the epilogue It's Just Joker sitting on a train and if you complete Akechi's confidant you get the glimpse of him I prefer the Ending of the OG P5 because of You get to see Joker with his friends ride off into the sunset

P3 as whole between FES and Portable I have at least 2 complete playthroughs on the PSP version 1 as the Male Protag in FES and one as the FeMC in P3P ( did a NG+ of P3P with the FeMC and got her to LVL99 and I think I may have competed the game with that but I am NOT 100% sure. I have a partial playthrough of P3P the PSP version with the Male Protag.

With that being said I like all 3 of the games I don't really have a favorite but if I did it probably would be P4/P4G because of the mystery solving aspect of the game and the characters as well.

P5R Is more modern and has better gameplay. While updated Tartarus is much better than that trash of a dungeon in original P3, it's still a procedurally generated dungeon without that many interesting features.

P5R is superior but it doesn't hurt to play P3R afterwards for a change.

My opinion on this

P3 - Best story and best crew
P4 - Best social events aka stuff that happens with your crew
P5 - Best gameplay and best dungeon

P5R is 10/10
P3R is 8/10
Playing P3R for the first time, I am noticing so many problems and flaws, which I'm glad to have been addressed in P5R. You can really see how the game evolved from P3 to P5. It gets me really excited for P6, but P5 is a hard game to top. Also a lot of people seem to praise P3's story, but in my eyes even that is questionable. Nothing happens in the first 20 hours. In P5, you've already finished an arc, a very intense and dramatic one at that. I'm currently 50 hours in, and the story seems to have just kicked off. That said, I still enjoy P3, albeit all flaws.
