P5R is definitely very rich in terms of gameplay, but I just love the protagonist of p3 so much. Sucker for calm cool protagonist.
But team wise, I think both are quite awesome. I think P5 team bond is stronger than P3 in the way they hang out? But P3 characters are great as well.
Which one I prefer? I'm an oldie, so p3 is a nice balance, I think I might be able to finish it less than 100hrs. While P5 definitely require more than 100hrs imo :p
P5 is sometimes too rich in gameplay that I have so much to complete, it feels like a chore at times. But not complaining.
Man, can't decide. Why not just both? Lols.
Also I'm glad they kept the japanese dub for both, as I can't stand my JRPG games in English dub.
Persona 5 Royal has way better dungeons (let's call it that way).
I think ATLUS made an amazing remake with P3R, but at the end, the best of this franchise is that you cannot be wrong with whatever game of those you prefer, they all are amazing and each and everyone have their own essence.
Presentation? 5R, more voicelines in school sim parts, NPCs are actually moving around instead of standing still for some reason (not talking about clearly corrupted ones), Velvet Room attendants throw comments at you if you interrupt their dialogue while going through menus in fusions and more.
Music? lmao not even close, P3 wins
Characters? P3, 5R is fine but I really won't ever miss Morgana.
Gameplay? I suck at Persona so to me they're equal. No really, I can't believe its universal fact that these games are easier than Nocturne, its unbelievable to me. In any case, dungeons may have more to them in 5, but that doesn't necessarily make them fun.
Final thoughts? I hate that Atlus didn't put a fragment of effort P3R got in Soul Hackers 2 I prefer 3 for most stuff that's not gameplay related.
Much more difficult comparison for me would be P5 with a P4. Still think it's P5, but P4 is very close. And it's definitely just because of the gameplay and music. Gameplay's much more refined (duh, 10 years gap) and music in P5 is outstanding! It's the best soundtrack in video gaming! In P3 the only good track is "Battle for everyone's souls". And, yes it's really good, but it's one track
- P3: best story
- P4: loved all the party members and they felt like true friends and an actual team, also there are some of the best social links in this game
- P5: best dungeons
This is an unpopular opinion, but my ranking would be P4G>P3R>P5R. I just think that besides the dungeons P5 doesn't stand up in any other department, of course graphics and gameplay are better but that's a given, considering it came out 10 years after the others.
P3 as whole between FES and Portable I have at least 2 complete playthroughs on the PSP version 1 as the Male Protag in FES and one as the FeMC in P3P ( did a NG+ of P3P with the FeMC and got her to LVL99 and I think I may have competed the game with that but I am NOT 100% sure. I have a partial playthrough of P3P the PSP version with the Male Protag.
With that being said I like all 3 of the games I don't really have a favorite but if I did it probably would be P4/P4G because of the mystery solving aspect of the game and the characters as well.
P3 - Best story and best crew
P4 - Best social events aka stuff that happens with your crew
P5 - Best gameplay and best dungeon
P3R is 8/10
Playing P3R for the first time, I am noticing so many problems and flaws, which I'm glad to have been addressed in P5R. You can really see how the game evolved from P3 to P5. It gets me really excited for P6, but P5 is a hard game to top. Also a lot of people seem to praise P3's story, but in my eyes even that is questionable. Nothing happens in the first 20 hours. In P5, you've already finished an arc, a very intense and dramatic one at that. I'm currently 50 hours in, and the story seems to have just kicked off. That said, I still enjoy P3, albeit all flaws.
