You're free to play them in any order you want. Personally, Reload is an amazing starting point and is the definitive Persona experience available right now.
P3R and P5 have the best graphics. P4G has the older style.
I would say skip P3P. An extra (nearly identical) story isn't worth an extra purchase.
The stories do not connect.
SO, I would suggest P4G, P3R, P5R in that order.
It has the best story out of all of them
Whatever order you play, I hope you'll have a fun time anyway !
Thank you I was putting this series off for years. I will play in this order thanks for suggestion. Also sorry for necroposting lol but it was the first thing in google search.
for steam then 3-4-5
Reload Golden and Royal are the recommended versions since most up-to date and modern versions.
in terms of personal order I would recommend 3-5-4
I think 3 is more digestible has a good story and gameplay and is the most modern
5 is similar but slightly older but has a longer story a lot more content and its funky vibe is an upgrade from the vibes from 3.
and 4 last not because its worse but because if you get this far you will definitely like 4 but not because of graphics but because you enjoy the gameplay loop and stories, 4 does some stuff great but its the least modern so I tend to recommend it last for those who really like the series, since its great but not the 'best' in terms of modern quality.
after you complete P5R, then you can decide if you want to play P3R/P4G or not
all persona game story are separated, sometimes they just have a tiny reference to the previous game.
Persona 5 Reload -> (Expansion of P5, a PS3 game.) Worst characters, "woke" story (not saying that as an perjorative just a matter of fact - Its ok overall), easiest, big city setting with most environments to explore, very flashy flowy gameplay, best graphically.
Persona 3 Reload -> (Remake of P3 FES, a PS2 game,) OK characters, story very heavily focused on death, big city setting but you can't explore anything and has the same limitations as the original more or less, has similar gameplay to P5R. Graphically kind of in between P4G and P5R.
Persona 3 Portable -> (PSP port remake that is both expansion+downgrade of PS2 version) Same story/characters as reloaded minus some added events, has a female MC option unlike the other games, unique retro charm, by far most dated gameplay and graphics. Female MC is the only reason to play this version unless you like the retro aspect.
Play whatever order you think sounds best to you, the stories are all completely unrelated for each numbered release.
