Just some opinion on the P3R story
I love P3R and just cleared the second full moon but as for someone who get drawn into Persona series by P5R, the story is just does not sound convincing to me.

Like in the first few hours in P5R the story can convince me on why someone has Persona and why does the protagonist need to be a Phantom Thieve.

But in P3R, it's just I got transferred to new school and then someone tell me, "hey you have potential and you must do this do that" without telling why. I know there is Apathy Syndrome that seem to connect with Tautarus but you don't even know what does Apathy Syndrome do. The story is not even bother to tell the protagonist motivation (I mean Makoto).

It seem like it will get better with the story but just some thought at this point.

This itteration of persona has a very VERY slow burn of a story... I think they start dropping some seriousness on you after you've defeated the 4th boss. That's by design as well... if you're starting to ask the question "why" then the story is doing it's job well

Just wait....

My first time playing P3 was pretty much the same... you get the feeling you're forced into a boring pattern of going to school, doing your social links, fighting shadows and in some part you stop questioning it but in the back of your mind that question is there: "Why am I doing this" .... and later on the game will respond in kind with your party members expressing that same emotion... which is when the ACTUAL story begins

Keep in mind this is a game from 2006/07 and it's the first of its type. P1 and P2 were more traditional pacing face with the school as more of a back drop than actual feature so pacing in them could follow play time than drip feeding events over the days like in 3 onward.

Honeslty going back to this from 4 and 5 i miss that it lets you ease in. and lets you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ play the first few hours instead of 5 where its 3 hours in till you get some free reign and even then it loves to take control out for large chunks of the clander for events that could be done in one day just to keep you pressed for time.

I was annoyed by that part as well in 5 but I was so “WOW” with the story that it didn’t bother me too much

You got lucky with your version of 5 being Royal. the origional version Morgonaa told you to go to sleep at every turn it felt like you didnt get any free time. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trash cat deserved every bit of ♥♥♥♥ Ryuji gave him.

Well, provided you accept "I was told to do it by a cat" as a reasonable excuse :P

P5 is basically a heist movie. P3 is a conspiracy thriller. The two naturally have very different pacing.

To be fair it's kinda worse in P4. Yeah the start is super slow and the team is not likeable at first but personally I find that more exciting because it doesn't feel forced. I can't stand playing P5 anymore the friendship of the cast doesn't feel genuine at all in comparison to 3 and 4 respective casts.
