HELP! stuck at rank 4 old couple

so they talked about hearing a rumor about the tree in the school being cut down and the game is telling me i cant progress to rank 5 even if i hang out with them. question is where can i get info on this rumor? i have talked to EVERYONE yet nothing seems to work.
what am i missing? im at the start of august.
trying to google the problem didnt help at all since apperently no1 has ever had my problem before

You don't always rank up the social link by hanging out with them once. Sometimes you have to visit multiple time before you rank up.

You just don't have enough points (those yellow notes) to progress. Hang out with them like two times and you'll be able to progress

Unfortunately, the game chose quite a miserable way to word it. It makes it seem like the story needs to progress, but it doesn't

no its different.
in a normal one it says "it doesent seem like i can rank up" or something similar but for these 2 old people it says something similar to "it does not matter how many times i spend time with them i wont rank up"

they cant just have decided to meme on everyone playing the game to make the old couple and only them have a different way of saying "you dont have enough points"

Ok that's weird then. I don't think that Social link has any stops that prevent you from ranking it up. Atleast it did not have it in the original. Have you tried spending time with them regardless of that warning to see if you get any yellow notes or not?

wait wtf. the wording has changed now.
was gonna go to them to give you the exact lines the game were giving me and it changed to the default one.
idk what happened, it might have just been a ui bug that i got.
so it turns out im not stuck after all, i just played through 3 in game months thinking i was missing something lmao
