How does exp work?
I needed 30 exp to level up the main character, a battle gave me 60 but I didn’t get the level up. After the battle it said I still needed like 20 exp, like what

total exp in battle is shared equally across your party member like other persona game, if you want to boost your char lvl fast, go in fight solo without party member

I understand, thank you

The exp shown after battle is distributed over the active party members, and if it's like the other versions, also level scaled.

Going solo shows the same amount of experience. But you monopolize it.

ex: MC, Junpei and Yukari win a battle. The end screen shows 60 exp, that's 20xp base for each of you. If you win solo, that's 60xp base just for you.

If you're overlevelled, you still get less. Some is just lost.
If a party member is underlevelled, they get more. They don't take it from you, they just get more.

I always thought the level scaling was a hidden multiplier. Dunno if that's true though.

I also want to ask, if is there and exp for inactive party members like in P5?

When the game decides you've grinded enough, you start to get near to no exp.

so does it show the amount that is shared at the end or does it show an amount, then decides how much is shared with the potential of not giving you the total it said

So far as i can tell, no there's no shared exp for inactive member but as the comment above said, if one of your party is underlevelled they'll get more exp therefore making grinding them not much of a chore

It honestly kind of makes me not want to fight at all at times because it makes it feel like I can't prep for the next gap after each full moon. It just feels like a forced way to stay weak each time you start a new section to me.
