Cant navigate menus with controller

I am using an xbox one controller (tried wired and wireless). I can use it to move around and select things, but I cant navigate any menu options with the controller, need to switch to mouse. This also applies to choosing dialogue. Anyone else facing this?

edit: figured it out. If anyone else faces this I fixed it by going to the controller settings for the game and disabling steam input. Dpad is now working fine.
