The anime names of the P3/P4/P5 protagonists always take priority over their names in the manga. Makoto Yuki has also been officially declared to be his canon name by Atlus.

His name in P3: Dancing in the Moonlight, P3P, and most other media has been Makoto Yuki. That basically confirms his canon name. Historically with the various Persona games the manga adaptations have NEVER used the canon name. P3 manga- Minato Arisato, P4 manga - Soujio Seta, P5 manga - Akira Kurusu. All wrong names.

Arisato is a way cooler surname. Used that for my playthrough + part of my own full name. I think Makoto Yuki is a full name however.

The Anime names usually tend to be the cannon ones anyway even if I like some of the manga persona protag names.

Doesn't mean you'd have two characters in your work of fiction sharing the same name unless there's a plot reason for it. That's like creative writing 101

In my heart, I side with all the manga names because they (1) they all came first and (2) come from authors instead of marketing departments. However, it's best to adopt the Official™ names just so we can communicate clearly with each other across the fandom.
