Personally, I like trading and exploring, also, it feels like an attempted spiritual successor to Uncharted Waters, from which series I played the 2nd quite a bit back in the day.
There are however, several things that appear to have been... not fully fleshed out. The Lounge cabin comes to mind here, it seems to have no use: I think it was supposed to let your officers heal up after expeditions or battles, but actually they get insta-healed afterwards. Plus the Manors and the like in many ports, a few get used in quests, but most of them are never used.
There are plenty of other minor bugs, like things that should've been translated but got missed, or poor explanations. And, while I haven't been hit with it, there's apparently a black-screen bug that makes playing ever again impossible? So far, I've seen no one mention a fix for that, either.
If you can ignore those things, the game can be a lot of fun. I, myself, have played through every captain, though I prefer the chinese one (merchant type), and have come back and replayed a few times.
(Now, if only Steam would stop recommending me Pirate-type games, apparently due to how I play several exploration and trading games that just happen to be set in the Age of Sail...)
