There are ports with a "Ship material store" that sells, well, materials you need to build ships. However, most of the time these stores only offer the basic version of such items. Rarely they'll have better items available, and you can sometimes loot good ship parts from treasures or battle loot, but if you really want a reliable source of the good stuff you need to set up a guild in the same city as the ship material store and then invest like hell in its tech and population. That'll start the rare ship item goods popping more often in the store.

For that quest? half of the parts will come with upgraded ship part shops, or pirates, and the other half are just normal ship parts bought from any store

The stores all sell General Keel and General Masts. This blueprint wont let me complete it without finding Light Keel and a Light Mast. soooo Broken?

Mind y'all, I have sailed all the way around Africa in search of these damned components so i can move forward with this quest line.

Really not sure if you can buy these. But doing some 40k bounties while boarding at least one enemy each time has quickly and randomly given me Light Mast and Light Keel, among other parts.

These bounties were taken from Nagasaki and etc.

You can refer to the steam Chinese guide for which port provide which part after upgrade. Just use google translate the page.
For example Light keel and light Mast only show up in Goa but not on nearby port shop.
The Chinese guide is pretty handy since it also list all recruitable NPCs, book stores, gift shop, etc... too.

Do you have a website you'd recommend for translating that guide? I tried DuckDuckGo and Googles translators and it seemed like semi-readable gibberish lol

Just use google translate from below link.

https://translate.google.com/?sl=auto&tl=en&op=websites

Copy the Steam guide URL and paste it in the web. Select "English" as the translate language.

This is super useful. While a huge pain in the ass, i enjoy the game enough to want to succeed at it so, thank you for the information!

Thanks, I have done a bunch of different bounties. I tried investing in a port, I have like 13 hours in game and invested close to a half mil into one port still haven't found it.

Going to use seriousfon's advice and check Goa and translate the guide best as I can.

The information from that listing ala the link, lists ports to buy the light mast, but NONE of those listed ports actually sell them; they only sell the general ones. Been also fighting tons of pirates, no light mast. WTF?

The ship parts sold at a ship materials store become available based on port tech.

If you're looking at the chinese guide, the 4 basic parts are always available.
The next part is sold at 300, then 400, then 500, then 600, etc. The second to last part on a given port's list sells at 900 tech, with the last part only showing up with a boutique.

Since all ports eventually reach 600 trade/tech naturally, this means the last 4 parts sold at any port require investment to actually show up.

That said, the Light Mast, which is sold at Gia Dinh, Goa, Trieste, and Jamaica all require 600 port tech to actually appear in the shop. You may need to invest to have it appear more quickly.

Pirate loot is pretty random. You are defeating them with boarding actions, right? Salvaging them afterward is how you get the parts. If you sink them with cannon fire, you don't get the parts. Messing this up is part of what made my own search for parts as Yoshitaka take forever.

I'm pretty new to the game, and, heheh, haven't even done a single boarding action.
So, nope. Thanks for clueing me into that and the fact that port techs needs to level.
I'm not sure how to invest in a port to have its tech level raise, but now I'll have something to work out.
Thanks for your reply/help.

In this game, you have to have a guild branch set up in the town you want to invest in (200 contribution for the permit), then do it from the guild menu. Bounties, discoveries, and trade contracts are the fastest way to get contribution. Then it's mostly a money sink until you get to the level you want.

Or, as CluelessWonder mentioned, you can just keep playing for a while and let ports develop on their own for a bit. They all eventually reach 60% of the maximum for the three port stats, even without investments. Investing is basically the endgame use for money, unless you're trying to rapidly upgrade a specific port or get one above 60% in its stats.
