So… This game scratched an itch I didn’t know I had.

Can I get some recommendations for games “like this one” ? I don’t exactly know what I liked in this game so apologies for being this vague.

Uncharted Waters is the one series this game took inspiration: you can try Uncharted Waters Origin on mobile or PC (beautiful graphics but it is gacha), or Uncharted Waters Online the niche MMO that somehow still gets updates, or one of the older ones but idk which one were localized in English.

You also may want to play Sid Meier's Pirates!, which is an all-time classic.

True, at least partially, Origins is not this tragic if you dont play on PvP servers. Its painful as any gacha and the community waited for this so long that they trash the game in reviews, but the gacha in it is not any worse than in Genshin or other games, hell, the game does not really limit your playtime unlike Genshin with its resin limiting all your end game content to 15 minutes per day (at least i did not see any limiting but i did not play this to long as i hate any and all gacha).
I would say let him try Origins, its free so hes losing nothing other than some time.

As much as I hate gacha mechanics, I think Uncharted waters online is a great time, especially is you like working towards goals and dont mind a grind, other then that emulating the SNES title is a good choice

Dont you mean Origins? Uncharted Waters Origins is the new entry and its the gacha one, and actually from what i heard its only gacha here in the west, the korean versions is totally different from what people were saying on the forums.

both games have gacha, I like online because all gacha items are tradeable, so it was possible to earn them with in game currency, but I haven't played for years so that may no longer be as common

Is the OG game this style of game inherits from, although indirectly here. If you liked the trading economy part it's great. But it's very dated now.
