Tips for Boarding
I've seen a bunch of topics about how to make boarding easier and here is what I found to work. Equip a ram to your ship and recruit Jaca in Nassau. Land 10 rams after recruiting him and he'll unlock a skill that instantly starts a boarding action after a successful ram.

I believe this actually unlocks his skill that boosts ram damage. I think the instant boarding skill is the one that requires upgrading brawling and steering.

You're correct, it's been a hot minute since I unlocked both. So I got them mixed up.

HOW do i Board,, i just started playing playing as Andrew , but each time i get close to enemy ship i just get sword fighting but no actual "animation" like in the tutorial . please help ?

It takes at least several seconds before transiting to the boarding scene. I recommend getting your sailors drunk before entering the battle, because morale dictates whether they can fight worth a darn.

that skill also requires you to tap (F) after the ram so you can miss it if not ready .

cortez and bat sword decrease time to board ( not instant ) by a fair degree , so worth getting that character and item.

My friend been equip his ship with double bow shrapnel cannon and keep stalking enemy ship from behind depleting their crew each time it fire. When the ship get low enough, he full mast for a killing blow. He playing as Yun Mu and has 2 companions with boarding preference as a captain so that is 3 ships ganking the same target. It is really brutal.
