Explore - Didnt find any better than what gemstones for all 3 have
Trade - Blue and White Porcelain
All 3 - diamond and sapphire (both have same bonus)
Exp: Ebony wood
Trade: blue and white porcelain
All: rubies
Damascus Knife: Beirut, northeast of Egypt. Exclusive source, I think.
Ebony Wood: Ceylon, island south of India.
Rubies: Ceylon, island south of India.
Blue and White Porcelain: Hangzhou, eastern end of China. Has a festival for cheap purchase. Exclusive source, IIRC.
Ceylon is a good spot for adding a guild, since it has lots of cultural goods. That makes it easier to add contribution to other ports.
My best guess is that the bonus 'shipbuilding effects' are semi-randomly selected based on how full those varying bars are.
i still guessing it is to determine what type rare type will you get rather getting it with random.
my first rare ship of the line (soleil Royal) without optional mat is more to durable and more crew.
but when i try use 4 damascuss knife i got De Zevel Provincien with more damage and speed but not durable and more crew like soleil royal. it's all still my guessing but now i will make experiment with other type of ship and see what rare type i will get with it.
Hypothetically, building a none-rare Clipper and loading it with Explore traits might make for a better lead ship than the Cutty Sark. This assumes you can get multiple explore traits that can amp up the sheer speed of the thing.
You can actually rig things a bit. The game decides the RNG of a port's ship rarity when you boot up the game. This means some ports will have higher odds, no matter how many times you load a saved game. However, those odds change once you quit the game and boot up again.
Once you have found yourself a "lucky" port, you can farm rare ships through save scumming. Note that some ports seem to make certain types of rare vessels - Greek ships have their own Galleas rare, as does Venice from what I understand.

after i got my 3rd rare type ship of the line now i finally have conclusion with optional material.
there are 3 stat speed (trade, assumption from clipper blue print that max trade) Fire (arms) and load (explore)
that what i assume addtional stat from optional material.
De Zeven Provincien and victory have same fire damage 768 because both of them use 4 damascuss knife.
while soleil royal which i got without use any optional material only have fire damage 720.
so additional 48 damage is from 4 damascuss knife ( @12 damage)
regardless of that i think each type also have other dominant stat like De Zeven Prov have 12 speed rather than other type that only have 11.
